OneWorld Radio offers services and networking for broadcasters and civil society organisations that use radio for human rights and sustainable development.

About us

OneWorld Africa (OWA) is a not for profit organization founded in 1999 to promote sustainable development and social justice across the African continent.

We achieve this by providing more people in Africa with the capacity to utilize locally available knowledge through the use of information communication technologies (ICTs).

The backbone of our operations is a network of civil society organizations coordinated by regional focal points in Southern, Eastern and West Africa. We also have strong presence in Anglophone, Francophone and Lusophone regions. With a secretariat in Lusaka, Zambia, we are part of the OneWorld International network of over 1500 affiliate partners.

Our Vision

Our vision is a vibrant, prosperous Africa that is people centred, inclusive and equitable.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be an effective ICT enabled communication network for African civil society organizations seeking to influence policy through the use of African knowledge using a wide range of ICTs.

Our Values

Our values are:

·         Human dignity for all as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

·         Working in partnership to avoid re-inventing similar initiatives

·         Maintaining integrity and solidarity as we realize our goals

·         Strieve to learn new ways of doing things

·         Creativity and innovation in attaining excellence

Our Work

Our work is segmented into four program areas namely:

·         Local knowledge development:

·         Capacity building

·         IT access

·         Policy advocacy

Local Knowledge for Development

In this program we promote the stimulation, development, packaging and dissemination of appropriate local knowledge among our development network. Integrating African knowledge is the underlying bedrock of this program and most of the knowledge generated is widely shared through our themed web based portals.

Capacity Building

We believe in working in partnership with like minded organizations and as such, continue to share ICT based expertise with our partners. Our efforts in this area have enabled us to strengthen the capacity and scope of civil society organizations (CSOs) and community based organizations (CBOs) to efficiently use ICTs in their work.

IT Access

Africa lags behind in accessing and utilizing appropriate ICTs for development. Through years of working with CSOs we find ourselves well placed to facilitate connectivity and accessibility for marginalized and vulnerable groups of society.

Policy Advocacy

Advocacy fuels action! Action brings change! We play an active role in sensitizing and engaging policy makers and stakeholders in formulating policies that include and benefit marginalized societies. On-going researches both off and online, consultations and workshops are some of the activities we have carried out in our bid to influence policy.
