26.01.2008 Continuano le violenze a Nakuru, capoluogo della Rift Valley dove le autorità keniane hanno imposto il coprifuoco notturno: l’agenzia Misna riporta che giovani armati appartenenti alla comunità kalenjin, che ha sostenuto il candidato sconfitto Odinga, verrebbero pagati 5000 scellini (circa 50 euro) per l’uccisione di un kikuyu, l’etnia di Kibaki. Proprio dalla zona di Nakuru ci giunge la drammatica testimonianza telefonica di don Gabriele Pipinato, direttore del Centro Saint Martin. “E la polizia? Cosa fa la polizia?” – “Sta aiutando i civili a lasciare le aree più calde per recarsi verso la Rift Valley per trovare rifugio. La situazione è per loro fuori controllo. Non fa che sparare in aria senza risultato. Da due giorni scontri e violenze tra gruppi armati di kalenjin e kikuyu hanno messo a ferro e fuoco villaggi interi. Le città di Rongai e il villaggio di Kiambogo sono stati attaccati con molte case date alle fiamme. Giovani disperati ed armati di machete e pistole distruggono ed uccidono”. (di Fabio Pipinato)
