30.03.2006 Ilmastonmuutoksella näyttäisi olevan vaikutus malarian leviämiseen Itä-Afrikassa. Pienilläkin lämpötilanmuutoksilla on havaittu olevan suuri vaikutus sääskipopulaatioon, Michiganin yliopiston tutkijaryhmä on osoittanut. Runsaimpien malariaesiintymien alueilla lämpötila on noussut puoli astetta alle 20 vuoden aikana.

24.03.2006 Tansanian hallitus on arvioinut, että seuraavien parin kuukauden kuluessa 4 miljoona ihmistä tarvitsee 100 000 tonnia maissia selvitäkseen seuraavaan satoon asti. Etiopiassa nälästä kärsii 8 - 10 miljoonaa ihmistä. Syynä on itäistä Afrikkaa rankasti koetteleva kuivuus. Suomen Lähetysseura aloittaa keräyksen ruoka-avun saamiseksi Etiopian ja Tansanian nälänhätäalueille.

13.03.2006 Continua la crisi diplomatica tra Italia ed Eritrea: dopo che una decina di giorni fa sei a Ong italiane presenti nel paese con progetti di cooperazione è stato imposto di concludere la loro attività, il Governo di Asmara ha espulso nei giorni scorsi Ludovico Serra, il numero due dell'ambasciata d'Italia ad Asmara. L’accusa è quella di “intrusione e violazione della legislazione locale”. Immediata la risposta dell'Italia che ha espulso un funzionario eritreo accreditato a Roma. L’Associazione dell Ong italiane si domanda quali siano i motivi di attrito tra il nostro paese e le autorità eritree, domandano un chiarimento da parte dei responsabili del Ministero Affari Esteri e invitano a non dare per scontata la definitiva rinuncia – da parte italiana – ad aiutare il popolo eritreo.
