20.02.2006 La reazione dell’Associazione delle ONG Italiane alla notizia della decisione del governo di Asmara di espellere dall'Eritrea sei Ong italiane (CESVI, GVC, Mani Tese, NEXUS, COSV, COOPI) è "di grande rammarico, se non di sorpresa, dal momento che, già negli ultimi mesi, il lavoro delle ONG e delle agenzie d’aiuto nel Paese era stato reso difficile dal crescere della tensione con la comunità internazionale per la mancata delimitazione dei confini. L’Eritrea accusa la comunità internazionale di non costringere l’Etiopia a rispettare le decisioni della commissione internazionale sui confini che, secondo gli accordi di pace del dicembre 2000 ad Algeri, avrebbero dovuto essere definitivi e obbligatori e dall’applicazione della nuova legge. Le Ong italiane – tutte storicamente impegnate e schierate a favore del popolo eritreo – non pensavano che si sarebbe arrivati fino a negar loro l’autorizzazione ad operare nel Paese e chiedono che il Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano "trovi un terreno di discussione con il Governo Eritreo che porti alla riapertura del dialogo e alla revisione del provvedimento".

Programma di alimentazione scolastica in Eritrea
17.02.2006 Il governo eritreo ha ordinato a sei organizzazioni non governative (Ong) italiane di lasciare il paese affermando che esse non rispettano la normativa sulle Ong: si tratta di Cesvi, GVC, Nexus, Cosva, Coopi e Manitese. In una lettera pervenuta alle sei Ong e datata 9 febbraio 2006, il Ministero eritreo del Lavoro e degli Aiuti Umanitari, ringraziando le associazioni per il contributo dato negli anni ai programmi umanitari e di riabilitazione in Eritrea, spiega che le organizzazioni non hanno completato i moduli per la registrazione. L'ambasciata italiana in Eritrea non ha commentato la vicenda. L'Eritrea, uno dei paesi più poveri del mondo, ha ripetutamente espresso il desiderio di rendersi indipendente dagli aiuti stranieri, ma ha anche manifestato una frustrazione crescente rispetto alla comunità internazionale, che a detta del governo di Asmara non esercita una pressione sufficiente sull'Etiopia affinché si arrivi a una decisione "finale e impegnativa" sui confini. Sono intanto stati rilasciati 15 dei 25 dipendenti locali della Missione Onu che si trovavano agli arresti.
