Chadian President Idriss Deby has affirmed that nearly half of the 180,000 displaced people in Chad will return to their homes by July. Local and UN officials believe this may be possible if security requirements are met.

Conflict and its effects have killed an estimated 5.4 million people in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1998 and continue to kill up to 45,000 a month - the deadliest conflict since the Second World War, according to a major survey released today.
