29.07.2006 Ieri il nuovo Direttore Generale della Rai Claudio Cappon ha annunciato l’apertura della nuova sede della Rai in Africa e ha assegnato ad Enzo Nucci l’incarico di corrispondente da Nairobi (Kenya). La notizia è stata accolta con grande soddisfazione dalla Tavola della pace, coordinamento Nazionale Enti Locali per la pace e i diritti umani, UsigRai e diverse riviste del mondo pacifista promotrici della campagna “Ho pagato il canone RAI. Voglio più…”. L’apertura della nuova sede della Rai in Africa è un successo del movimento per la pace: la sede dovrebbe essere aperta entro il prossimo 4 ottobre e sarà intitolata ad Ilaria Alpi e Miran Hrovatin, giornalista e operatore della Rai, assassinati mentre erano impegnati nella ricerca della verità su una delle tante tragedie che ci lega all’Africa. "La sede Rai in Africa era solo il primo degli obiettivi della campagna. Continueremo a lavorare per assicurare un sempre più ampio spazio all’informazione internazionale e alla pace nei palinsesti Rai e per programmare una nuova trasmissione televisiva settimanale sulla pace e i diritti umani" - scrivono i promotori.

Kuivuuden näivettämää maata Keniassa
28.07.2006 YK:n Maailman elintarvikeohjelma (WFP) varoittaa, että sen hätäruoka-apu ei riitä miljoonille kenialaisille, jotka eivät ole kuivuuden vuoksi saaneet satoa. WFP:n Kenian maajohtajan Tesema Negashin mukaan varastoissa ei ole viljaa enää syyskuulle. Järjestö vetoaakin lahjoittajiinsa, jotta nälänhätä saataisiin estettyä. WFP ruokkii tällä hetkellä 3,6 miljoonaa kenialaista.

28.07.2006 Syksyllä alkaa Kouvolanseudun ammattiopistossa uusi työllistämisohjelma. Afrikantähti-koulutuksen tarkoitus on opettaa toimimaan vieraiden kulttuurien parissa ja oppia kohtaamaan erilaisuutta. Ohjelman painopiste on Afrikassa ja kehitysyhteistyössä, mutta kurssin käynyt saattaa yhtä hyvin työllistyä kulttuurituntemusta vaativiin tehtäviin Suomessa.

Sudan e Darfur
21.07.2006 L’uccisione di tre uomini nei pressi del campo di Zalinge in Darfur occidentale (Sudan) ha portato alla sospensione di tutte le attività umanitarie delle agenzie della Nazioni Unite nella zona a ridosso del confine con il Ciad. Lo ha riferito all'agenzia Misna l’Alto commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i rifugiati (Acnur/Unhcr), precisando che l’uccisione dei tre dipendenti di una società idrica è solo l’ultimo di una serie di episodi violenti avvenuti negli ultimi giorni e che dimostra la grande insicurezza che ancora si registra nell’area. Intanto nei giorni scorsi, in occasione della conferenza dei donatori a Brussels, Amnesty International ha sollecitato il rafforzamento della Missione dell'Unione africana in Sudan (Amis), in modo che le sue truppe possano garantire un'effettiva protezione alla popolazione civile del Darfur. Nonostante la firma, a maggio, dell'Accordo di pace per il Darfur e la presenza, dal giugno 2004, dell'Amis, la crisi umanitaria nel Darfur resta catastrofica e gli abusi nei confronti della popolazione civile proseguono su scala massiccia.
