28.09.2006 Kalifornian kuvernööri Arnold Schwarzenegger vahvisti 27. syyskuuta Yhdysvaltojen ensimmäisenä osavaltiona suunnitelman kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen vähentämiseksi. Tavoitteena on vähentää osavaltion päästöjä vuoden 1990 tasolle vuoteen 2020 mennessä, mikä tarkoittaa 25 prosenttia nykyisistä päästöistä.
