27.10.2005 Three activists have won the prestigious Human Rights Defender Award: Omid Memarian, a journalist and web-blogger from Iran, Salih Mahmoud Osman, lawyer and human rights activist from Darfur, and Beatrice Were, an advocate for the rights of women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
* The "ladies in white", wives and mothers of imprisoned dissidents in Cuba, this week received the Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought, along with Nigerian lawyer Hauwa Ibrahim and Reporters Without Borders.

04.10.2005 Le notizie di nuovi scontri e di attacchi da parte dei Janjaweed, in cui secondo l’Unione Africana (Ua) hanno preso parte anche forze governative, avrebbero portato una delle due correnti del principale gruppo ribelle attivo in Darfur (Slm) a lasciare il tavolo dei negoziati in corso da metà settembre ad Abuja - informa l'agenzia Misna. Dopo aver definito “irrilevanti” i colloqui, e aver precisato che non hanno alcuna ripercussione sul terreno, la fazione dell’Esercito di liberazione del Sudan (Slm) che fa capo a Minni Arcua Minnawi ha richiamato i suoi “fare ritorno nei territori liberati e lasciare i negoziati”. I colloqui organizzati dall’Ua ad Abuja, in Nigeria, in realtà non erano mai realmente decollati, a causa degli scontri e delle violenze riprese proprio alla vigilia della sesta sessione del negoziato. Un ostacolo ai colloqui è venuto anche dalle accuse di pregiudizio contro il Chad dal JEM (Justice and Equality Movement), uno dei due gruppi ribelli al tavolo di Abuja, che per due mesi ha accusato il Chad di essere il "guastatore della pace".
