Kuudessa kehitysmaassa tehty tutkimus osoittaa mediassa lieviä väsymisen merkkejä hiv/aids-aiheisia uutisia kohtaan. Etelä-Afrikassa kymmenen prosenttia haastatelluista toimittajista piti aiheen uutisarvoa alhaisena. Etelä-Afrikan kansalaisjärjestöt ovat tyytyväisiä hiv/aidsin saamaan painoarvoon mediassa, mutta tyytymättömiä yksipuoliseen kirjoitteluun aiheesta.
