L'organizzazione Watch Nepal, partner del Progetto AIFO di sviluppo socio-sanitario nel paese asiatico, si trova in una situazione estremamente rischiosa, sia per il carattere delle sue attività di riabilitazione sociale, sia perché tutte le aree in cui Watch è presente sono sotto l'influenza maoista. Watch ha adottato una linea di massima trasparenza nella conduzione delle sue azioni. Lo staff informa entrambe le parti su ciascuna iniziativa di rilievo che si voglia attuare, in modo da salvaguardare la sicurezza degli operatori e dei beneficiari del progetto. AIFO, assieme a Watch, procede su questa linea di neutralità. La situazione creatasi dopo la repressione dello sciopero generale ha però indotto gli operatori di Watch ad intervenire per soccorrere le vittime delle violenze governative, e ciò li rende dei potenziali bersagli della repressione.

25.04.2006 KATHMANDU, Apr 25 (IPS) - Nepal's capital was light-hearted again Tuesday. From the hundreds of thousands who marched, danced and sang on the roads, to the store-keepers idly chatting before open shops, to the pedestrians speaking on mobile phones nimbly side-stepping potholes, relief and normality were in the air hours after the king bowed to "people power" rather than face a protest headed for the palace gates.

24.04.2006 The Hong Kong-based human rights organisation Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has called for Nepalese king Gyanendra to step down so that people can bring him to justice. The organisation says that the king's defiance to restore democracy has only made the people more determined to oust him.

23.04.2006 As demonstrations continued in Nepal, security forces in several locations violently dispersed protestors, according to UN officials who visited the injured and criticised the excessive use of force.

20.04.2006 At least three demonstrators were killed and 50 injured in Kathmandu on Thursday as police clashed with a huge crowd of pro-democracy protesters, and former prime minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai rejected King Gyanendra’s invitation to become leader of the government.

20.04.2006 Around half dozen agitators were injured as police rained lathis on a mob heading towards the residence of the Chief District Officer. Police also beat up some agitators after a dispute erupted in the municipality office as the agitators were trying to padlock it.
