Coltivazione di oppio in Afghanistan
28.08.2007 La produzione di oppio in Afghanistan è cresciuta in un anno del 34% e nel 2007 arriverà a 8.200 tonnellate. Lo rivela un rapporto dell'Ufficio Onu contro la droga e il crimine (Unodc) che definisce "spaventosi" i livelli raggiunti. "L'Afghanistan può praticamente considerarsi l'esclusivo fornitore mondiale di oppio: oggi la sua produzione copre il 96% del mercato mondiale degli oppiacei" - ha commentato Antonio Maria Costa, Direttore dell'Unodc che ha accusato anche le truppe straniere nelle province confinanti con il Pakistan di "tacita accettazione del traffico di oppio in cambio di informazioni d'intelligence e sostegno occasionale durante le operazioni contro i Talebani e Al Queda". Circa il 70% di tutto l'oppio prodotto in Afghanistan proviene infatti dalle 5 province che confinano con il Pakistan.
