02.03.2007 Intian lapsista jopa lähes 80 prosenttia kärsii raudan puutteen aiheuttamsta anemiasta, samoin kuin yli puolet alle 50-vuotiaista vaimoista. National Family Health Surveyn tekemän tutkimuksen mukaan anemia on yleisintä Assamin osavaltiossa, jossa yli 70 prosenttia 15-49-vuotiaista naisista kärsi anemiasta. Tutkijoiden mukaan naisten heikko asema, huono ravinto ja kallis terveydenhuolto selittävät anemian yleisyyttä.
