01.02.2006 E' oggi a Roma per un incontro con imprenditori italiani il Presidente della Guinea Equatoriale Teodoro Obiang Nguema, accompagnato da quattro Ministri. Scopo dell’iniziativa è di avviare con l’Italia un rapporto privilegiato, aprendo il Paese agli investimenti dell’imprenditoria italiana. L’evento è organizzato dal Rappresentante Personale del Presidente del Consiglio per l’Africa, On. Alberto Michelini, ma “è evidente che l’obiettivo primario di quest’incontro è l’apertura del mercato del petrolio “alternativo” a quello arabo che ha contribuito a rendere questo Paese ambìto dalle multinazionali e dalle diplomazie estere. Poco conta che Nguema Obiang ha fatto di questo paese dell’Africa occidentale una società chiusa e repressiva, dove l’opposizione politica viene imprigionata e torturata" - afferma Francesco Martone, segretario della Commissione Diritti Umani del Senato.

06.07.2004 The government of Equatorial Guinea, the rags-to-riches West African petro-state where major U.S. oil companies have invested billions of dollars in recent years, has violently put down the latest coup plot against it, summarily executing at least a dozen alleged rebels and rounding up and torturing relatives and associates of an opposition party accused of sponsoring the coup attempt.

15.07.2003 La Plataforma per la Democratització de Guinea Equatorial, formada per ONG, sindicats i partits polítics, ha enviat una carta al Govern espanyol per exigir que s'investigui la mort de la cooperant espanyola recentment tirotejada per un militar guineà. La Plataforma també demana un canvi de la política espanyola cap a aquest país després que l'Executiu espanyol hagi firmat aquests dies acords comercials i de condonació del deute sense exigir al president Obiang Nguema compromisos a favor dels drets humans. Segons les entitats, aquest suport només beneficia el Govern guineà i "no afavoreix la democràcia ni el desenvolupament del país".

15.07.2003 La Plataforma por la democratización de Guinea Ecuatorial, que agrupa ONG, sindicatos y partidos políticos, ha enviado una carta al Gobierno español para exigir que se investigue la muerte de la cooperante española recientemente tiroteada por un militar guineano. La Plataforma también pide un cambio de la política española hacia este país, después de que el Ejecutivo español haya firmado estos días acuerdos comerciales y de condonación de la deuda sin exigir al presidente Obiang Nguema compromisos a favor de los derechos humanos. Según las entidades, este apoyo sólo beneficia al Gobierno guineano y "no favorece la democracia ni el desarrollo" del país.
