Després de quatre anys de silenci, el president grecoxipriota Glafcos Clerides i el seu homòleg turcoxipriota Rauf Denktash s?han assegut per pactar el final del conflicte de Xipre, que va provocar la partició de l'illa fa 28 anys. L'imminent ingrés de Xipre a la Unió Europea (UE) ha impulsat l'inici de les negociacions que tenen com a objectiu l'establiment d'una nova Constitució i la fundació d'un Estat federal conjunt. Si el diàleg conclou amb èxit els propers mesos, els empobrits turcoxipriotes podran fruir dels avantatges del benestar social europeu, Grècia i Turquia podrien millorar la seva relació i el país asiàtic estaria fins i tot a les portes de la seva entrada a la UE.

El inminente ingreso de Chipre en la Unió Europea (UE) ha impulsado el inicio de las negociaciones que tienen como objetivo el establecimiento de una nueva Constitución y la fundación de un Estado federal conjunto. Si el diálogo concluye con éxito en los próximos meses, los empobrecidos turcochipriotas podrán disfrutar de las ventajas del bienestar social europeo, Grecia y Turquía podrían mejorar su relación y el país asiático estaría incluso a las puertas de su entrada en la UE.
