31.10.2007 The Stand Up, Speak Out campaign by the Millennium Campaign and the Global Call to Action against Poverty, along with its partners have led to an incredible number of 43.7 million people – both physically and intentionally – standing up against poverty and in support of the Millennium Development Goals. The campaign’s success reveals a growing movement of people who want more urgent political responses to the growing crisis of global poverty.

28.10.2007 A new report from UNDP uses the Oil Price Vulnerability Index (OPVI) to measure the brunt of rising oil prices on Asia’s poor. While India may fare better than its neighbours in its ability to absorb oil price shocks, a continued rise could have an adverse impact on the region’s gains on MDGs, the report warns.

24.10.2007 In the progress report of Asia Pacific countries’ MDGs achievement this year Indonesia still remains being categorized as backward country and possibly is far behind in the MDGs achievement unless it is accompanied by political will and pro-poor state budget.

20.10.2007 38.8 million people worldwide broke last year's numbers to make a new world record for the Stand Up, Speak Out campaign on October 17, the International Day for Eradication of Poverty. By standing up, these people are calling upon Governments to match their actions by displaying the political will to end poverty, said Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General.

Marchers Standing Up for MDGs
19.10.2007 Over 25,000 people danced, sang and walked, carrying flags, banners and posters in support of the MDGs at the north Indian city of Mathura. These poor, landless people are on a march to the capital to claim their rights from the government.

Children stand up at a Delhi school in India
18.10.2007 India showed itself at the fore in standing up and speaking out against poverty on October 17 in the global anti-poverty campaign Stand Up and Speak Out. Over 38.7 million people created a new world record for the largest number of people to stand up for a cause, of which 13 million were from India.

18.10.2007 In India, hundreds of women came together to raise their voices against poverty at the Women’s Tribunal on Poverty on October 17. The event, held at New Delhi, was marked by the release of a women’s charter on poverty and a visit to the President, reinforcing their rights to be heard.

17.10.2007 Oggi quasi un miliardo di persone, 980 milioni per l'esattezza, vive in condizioni di estrema povertà con meno di un dollaro al giorno. Lo riportano le Nazione Unite nella "Giornata internazionale di lotta alla povertà" che si è celebrata oggi, 17 ottobre. A vent'anni dalla prima Giornata internazionale, l'Africa sub-sahariana continua a mantenere il triste primato con un numero di poveri pressochè invariato che supera i 300 milioni. Secondo la Banca Mondiale, se il trend attuale continua la povertà diminuirà entro il 2015 solo del 10%, ben lontano dal primo degli Obiettivi del Millennio, il dimezzamento della povertà nel mondo. Per questo oggi la Campagna internazionale per gli Obiettivi ha chiesto a tutti di "Stand up", alzare la propria voce per richiamare i leader di governo a mettere in atto politiche per realizzare gli Obiettivi stabiliti all'Onu nel 2000.
