While they are discussed and debated at "intellectual " "scientific" and "business forums", they have an impact at every level. With rapid globalization this impact is likely to spread wider and deeper. This paper tries to examine the effect of such regimes on biodiversity related knowledge systems and possible ways of creating open knowledge systems, which would genuinely benefit the poor and the marginalised.
