The killing of two Indonesian domestic workers by their employers in Saudi Arabia highlights the Saudi government’s ongoing failure to hold employers accountable for serious abuses. The brutal beatings by these employers also left two other Indonesian domestic workers critically injured.

“I’ve seen all the recent Gypsy films, including all those shown at the Barbican in June, and this is the best”, a fellow journalist said at the end of Gypsy Caravan. I don’t know if she’s right as I haven’t seen the others, but there’s no doubt that Caravan is tremendous fun.

The Papua Legislative Council is deliberating a regulation that would see microchips implanted in people living with HIV/AIDS so authorities could monitor their actions. The regulation has been condemned by activists in the province as a gross violation of rights.

In October the Museum in Docklands will open the only permanent gallery in London that examines the city's involvement in transatlantic slavery and its legacy on the capital. It will debunk the myth that London was a minor player in the trade by showing that it funded much of the city's industrial and financial success.

An Indian organisation, The Prakriti Foundation, which is based in Chennai, is organising One Billion Eyes, an annual documentary film festival. The theme for the year is Caste. The festival will feature films, the thoughts of concerned citizen on caste and the agony of the victims. The best film will get the prize of Rs 25,000.

A group of Macedonian non-governmental organizations give their full support and solidarity to Iso Rusi, journalist and president of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Macedonia, related to the attacks and threats that the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA) sent to his address provoked by his recent op-ed, titled “Gospodin Gospodin Thaqi” (Gospodin Gospodin is the official title of the archbishop of the Macedonian Orthodox Church), published in “Koha” daily newspaper.

Ieri, 25 marzo, in occasione del bicentenario dell'abolizione della schiavitů nell’Impero britannico, il sindaco di Londra Ken Livingstone ha colto l'occasione per chiedere scusa per le responsabilitŕ della Gran Bretagna nell'orrenda tratta di esseri umani: "Il governo britannico deve formalmente fare ammenda per aver partecipato al commercio transatlantico di schiavi. Ogni ambiguo tentativo di evitare o negare queste scuse, danneggia il nostro paese agli occhi del resto del mondo". Ma in molte nazioni, e fra queste anche gli Stati Uniti e la Gran Bretagna, ci sarebbero 200 milioni di schiavi (20milioni nella sola India) documenta una mostra in questi giorni a Londra accessibile anche online. E tratta, prostituzione, lavoro per ripagare debiti, schiavitů domestica, lavoro nelle miniere e nei campi, bambini soldato, matrimoni imposti sono le nuove forme di schiavitů infantili - riporta Save the Children.

La Corte Internazionale di Giustizia si č finalmente pronunciata sul ricorso della Bosnia ed Erzegovina contro la Serbia per violazione della Convenzione sulla Repressione e Punizione del Crimine di Genocidio. Il procedimento č durato 14 anni ed era iniziato al tempo della guerra, quando Sarajevo era sotto assedio. Giŕ nel 1993 il governo della Repubblica di Bosnia ed Erzegovina aveva denunciato alla Corte Internazionale di Giustizia l’allora Jugoslavia per violazioni della Convenzione. La Convenzione prevede infatti la giurisdizione della Corte Internazionale in caso di dispute tra Stati firmatari della Convenzione. In base alla Convenzione quindi, la Corte puň solamente determinare l’esistenza della responsabilitŕ civile, non penale, degli stati. di Massimo Moratti

The Centre for Peace Studies sent an open letter to the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, protesting the fact that 13-year old boy of Croatian-Liberian origin was expelled by his elementary school in Split on petition by the parents of the other students from his class. One of the reasons used to “justify” the request was that he was “Bantu”.

Jučer su mediji objavili kako je splitska osnovna škola Trstenik izbacila trinaestogodišnjeg dječaka liberijsko-hrvatskog podrijela, učenika četvrtog razreda, na osnovu peticije roditelja učenika njegovog razreda. U peticiji se kao razlog zahtijeva za izbacivanjem među ostalim navodi kako je dječak "bantu-crnac". Direktor škole je ovaj postupak opravdao činjenicom da dječak ne govori dobro hrvatski jezik, dok je Županijska pročelnica za prosvjetu kao obrazloženje navela činjenicu da je dječak bio puno stariji od ostalih učenika. Ovim je povodom Centar za mirovne studije (CMS) uputio otvoreno pismo Ministarstvu znanosti, obrazovanja i sporta.
