La discriminació racial a les administracions de justícia nega sistemàticament a certes persones el ple gaudi dels seus drets humans a causa del color de la pell, la raça, l'ètnia, el llinatge o l'origen nacional a molts països. Els sistemes de justícia sovint perpetuen el racisme, al ser un reflexe dels prejudicis de les seves societats, segons denuncia Amnistia Internacional a l'informe que ha elaborat com a aportació a la Conferència Mundial de les Nacions Unides contra el racisme que se celebrarà a Sud-àfrica del 30 d'agost al 7 de setembre d'enguany. Aquest document, que abunda en exemples de casos, presenta diverses recomanacions perquè els governs combatin el racisme que inclouen algunes mesures relatives a l'administració de justícia.

Los sistemas de justicia a menudo perpetúan el racismo, al ser un reflejo de los prejuicios de sus sociedades, según denuncia Amnistía Internacional en el informe que ha elaborado como aportación a la Conferencia Mundial de las Naciones Unidas contra el racismo que se celebrará en Sudáfrica del 30 de agosto al 7 de septiembre de este año. Este documento, que abunda en ejemplos de casos, presenta diversas recomendaciones a los gobiernos para combatir el racismo que incluyen algunas medidas relativas a la administración de justicia.

"Racism is a blatant attack on the very notion of basic human rights--that human rights belong to all people, equally," Amnesty International said today in a new report. Expressing concern that political disputes may derail the upcoming World Conference on Racism, Amnesty called on all governments to ensure that the conference is held and achieves meaningful results. An Indian group defending the rights of "untouchables" (Dalits) has urgently appealed to the World Conference Against Racism to condemn discrimination on the basis of work and descent. They hope the conference will inform the world about the caste-based discrimination faced by 160 million Indian Dalits. "For them the right to equality and freedom is still a mirage," the statement says.

Human Rights Watch called Thursday for reparations to counter the most severe effects of slavery, segregation, and other extreme forms of racism, adding: "Those most seriously victimized today by past wrongs should be the first priority for compensation to end their victimization." The U.S. has consistently opposed this position in run-up meetings to the U.N. Conference on Racism planned for September.
