30.04.2008 A first batch of Bhutanese refugees living in Nepal has landed in America. Described as one of the largest resettlement programmes in the world, the US has agreed to take in 60,000 refugees. Away from sub-human conditions in the camps, they are finding their new life both strange and full of prospects.

29.04.2008 A new UN report released less than two weeks after the Maoists’ victory in the Nepal polls, says children are still being recruited by armed groups and used for political demonstrations. The report calls for enhanced legal protection of minors, in line with international standards.

28.04.2008 Saat ini 17 pengusaha emas menguasai wilayah Degewo Papua. Akibatnya, perselisihan demi perselisihan terjadi karena warga berusaha memperebutkan kembali hak ulayatnya. Tercatat sudah 50 orang menjadi korban dari insiden mempertahankan hak ulayat. Ironisnya, justru oknum-oknum aparat keamanan malah membekingi para pengusaha guna mengamankan kekayaan emas.

Puing-puing Keganasan Lumpur Lapindo: Pelanggaran HAM!
24.04.2008 Komnas HAM menilai, pemerintah pusat secara tak langsung melakukan pelanggaran HAM terhadap korban lumpur Lapindo. Indikasinya, pemerintah lewat Perpres nomor 14/2006 melegalkan PT Lapindo Brantas Inc. untuk melakukan jual-beli, bukan memberi ganti rugi, kepada masyarakat yang menjadi korban lumpur.

22.04.2008 To counter human trafficking, Indian government with support from UN agency on drugs and crime has released a manual for Delhi Police. The manual guides policemen to deal strictly with the crime and also talks of bringing about an attitudinal change so as not to subject the victims to further indignities.

21.04.2008 Kehidupan korban pelanggaran HAM pun sangat memprihatinkan. Mereka pun rata-rata bekerja sebagai buruh. Saat ini masih banyak anak-anak dari korban pelanggaran HAM yang putus sekolah karena penghasilan orangtuanya sebagai buruh tidak mencukupi. Karena itu, anak-anak mereka berhak atas pendidikan yang layak, kesehatan, tempat tinggal yang layak, yang semuanya harus diberikan pemerintah secara gratis.

21.04.2008 Para penasihat hukum atau advokat kondang tak boleh hanya melayani klien berduit. Mereka juga wajib memberikan bantuan hukum cuma-cuma alias gratis kepada klien tak mampu. Ketentuan ini sebenarnya sudah diatur dalam pasal 22 UU No 18 Tahun 2003 tentang Advokat. Aturan teknis terkait UU itu agar bisa direalisasikan, segera dikeluarkan.

17.04.2008 GKJM Yogyakarta tolak Raperda tentang Penanganan Gelandangan, Pengemis dan Perlindungan Anak. Menurut GKJM Raperda tersebut merupakan suatu rancangan produk hukum yang diskriminatif. Dari perspektif hukum, banyak kajian yuridis yang menyatakan bahwa substansi Raperda ini telah melanggar basis-basis dasar pembuatan suatu produk hukum yakni telah melanggar basis filosofis, yuridis dan sosiologis.
