Eritrea: Environment

Eritrea is a fascinating place to explore and witness nature's beauty with many unique features in its heritage. Virtually a crimeless nation in the present context, it is a natural gift to world from Africa. The reconstruction of its railway system after 30 years war with neighbouring Ethiopia has once again attracted international tourists to observe beautiful mountainous track and classical locomotive trains.

Eritrea recently banned the use of plastic bags to avoid any future environmental pollution, which in turn will boost tourism in future. The capital Asmara is regarded on one of cleanest and safest cities in Africa.

The Global Environment Facility is supporting a project to explore the potential for wind energy production in Eritrea, especially along the coastline. The infrastructure for conventional energy has been undermined by the years of conflict.
