22.09.2006 “Oggi come negli altri 364 giorni, le violenze continuano a mietere vite innocenti. E queste ultime settimane hanno visto nuove escalation di conflitti in molte parti del mondo” - ha detto il Segretario generale dell’Onu Kofi Annan nel suo messaggio per la Giornata internazionale della Pace che si è celebrata ieri 21 settembre. E in un messaggio inviato alla Conferenza sulla Cooperazione Interreligiosa per la Pace in corso a New York, Annan ha lanciato un forte appello per il dialogo, la cooperazione e l'abbandono dei pregiudizi tra le fedi e ha messo in guardia contro le crescenti tensioni tra le principali religioni del mondo. Ieri era anche la Giornata Internazionale di Preghiera per la Pace dell'Onu: una giornata in cui "possano tacere le armi e in cui tutti, a partire dalla propria spiritualità, possano riproporsi di costruire la pace attraverso la nonviolenza". PaxChristi Italia ha aderito alla giornata chiedendo per domenica durante le liturgie una preghiera particolare per la pace.

15.09.2006 La Rete Caschi Bianchi (coordinamento degli enti Associazione Comunità Papa Giovanni XXIII, Caritas Italiana, Volontari nel Mondo FOCSIV e GAVCI) esprime soddisfazione per la proposta della Vice Ministra alla Cooperazione Patrizia Sentinelli al Tavolo per la ricostruzione del Libano in ordine alla costituzione di una forza civile di pace che favorisca il processo di ricostruzione e la soluzione non-violenta del conflitto. E l'Assemblea nazionale di "Action for peace", tenutasi a Firenze il 10 settembre scorso, propone a tutto il movimento contro la guerra e per la pace, entro novembre, una Manifestazione nazionale sulla base di un appello nel quale si sottolinea che "la missione militare in Libano, - pur con i limiti e le ambiguità della risoluzione ONU 1701 - è nata sul consenso delle parti in conflitto ed ha l'obiettivo ufficiale di interposizione e protezione dei civili", ma che è esposta al rischio di degenerazione se la politica non occupa immediatamente la scena, riguadagnando il terreno del negoziato e del dialogo con tutti gli Stati della Regione e mettendo al centro la soluzione della questione Israelo-Palestinese, condizione indispensabile perché prevalgano pace e giustizia in Medio oriente.

14.09.2006 YK:n humanitaaristen asioiden alipääsihteeri Jan Egeland kertoi tiistaina olevansa optimistinen Kongon ja Ugandan tilanteiden kehittymisen suhteen. Vaikuttaa siltä, että konfliktit näissä maissa ovat päättymässä. Hän kuitenkin varoittaa, että tarvitaan lisää avustuksia, jotta maiden asukkaat pääsevät palaamaan kotiseuduilleen ja uuden elämän alkuun.

12.09.2006 Viisi entistä neuvostotasavaltaa allekirjoitti sopimuksen Keski-Aasian ydinaseista vapaasta alueesta (Central Asia nuclear-weapon-free zone). Sopimuksen mukaan ne eivät enää koskaan hanki, valmista, omista tai testaa ydinaseita. Osa Neuvostoliiton ydinaseista oli aikaisemmin sijoitettu näihin Keski-Aasian neuvostotasavaltoihin Kazakstaniin, Kirgisiaan, Tadzhikistaniin, Turkemistaniin ja Uzbekistaniin.

12.09.2006 International Peace Bureau (IPB) myönsi Sean MacBride-rauhanpalkinnon tänä vuonna kansainväliselle Mayors for Peace-kaupunkiverkostolle. Palkinnon luovutti IPB:n puheenjohtaja Cora Weiss Hiroshiman pormestari Tadatoshi Akiballe perjantaina kahdeksas syyskuuta Helsingissä. Kaupunginjohtajat toivottivat kaikki Suomen kaupungit tervetulleiksi Mayors for Peace-verkoston jäseniksi.
