31.08.2006 Sri Lankan organisation Sarvodaya is holding a meditation for peace initiative on October 2, 2006 - Mahatma Gandhi's birthday - at the sacred city of Anuradhapura. Sarvodaya expects to host one million people from all over the world - the largest gathering in Sri Lanka’s history - clad in white clothes to meditate for peace.

What next for Nepal?
28.08.2006 The UN has appointed Ian Martin as the new envoy to Nepal to spearhead efforts to promote peace in the troubled Himalayan country. The envoy has previously served on several occasions as special envoy to Timor-Leste.

08.08.2006 Questa mattina una cinquantina di persone si sono radunate di fronte all'ingresso Nord della Base Usaf di Aviano, in vista della preannunciata "Ispezione dei Cittadini", con la quale i promotori dell'iniziativa si proponevano di verificare la presenza di armi atomiche all'interno della Base. Alla richiesta avanzata da Lisa Clark, Presidente del Comitato "Via le Bombe", a nome del team di ispettori, di poter entrare nella Base, il col. Sardo ha opposto un cortese quanto netto rifiuto, motivato dai regolamenti che concedono solo ai parlamentari il diritto di ispezionare le installazioni militari. Gli ispettori hanno rivendicato il diritto per tutti i cittadini di conoscere la veritą in merito alla presenza di atomiche nella base. Il senatore Francesco Martone, unico parlamentare presente, ha cortesemente declinato l'invito del Comandante ad entrare nella Base, dichiarando di essere lģ in quanto cittadino tra i cittadini. Domani, 9 agosto, alle ore 11.00, i promotori saranno di nuovo nel campo antistante la Base Usaf di Aviano, per la cerimonia in ricordo dell'atomica sganciata su Nagasaki 61 anni fa.

Il fungo della bomba atomica si Hiroshima
05.08.2006 Per rilanciare il tema del disarmo nucleare e discutere dell'accordo Nato di condivisione nucleare tra Italia e Stati Uniti dal 6 al 9 agosto si terrą l'iniziativa "Via le atomiche". Inizierą domenica 6 agosto davanti alla base Usaf di Aviano con una cerimonia in ricordo di Hiroshima e proseguirą lunedi con il convegno a Pordenone dedicato alle atomiche in Italia. Dal 3 al 6 agosto in Giappone un convegno internazionale in occasione dell'anniversario delle bombe nucleari sganciate su Hiroshima e Nagasaki. Si parlerą di uranio impoverito. Domenico Leggiero, portavoce dell'Osservatorio Militare, racconta all'Osservatorio sui Balcani perché partecipa e aggiorna sulla questione uranio impoverito in Italia e nei Balcani. La stampa italiana non riporta notizia del convegno internazionale e anche in caso di decesso di un militare la notizia č relegata ad un semplice aggiornamento di dati mortuari. "Il dramma č che non c'č pił notizia sui morti per uranio impoverito" - denuncia Leggiero.
