26.05.2006 Il Centro viterbese di ricerca per la pace ha lanciato un appello online al Presidente della Repubblica affinchè il 2 giugno, Festa della Repubblica, si svolga senza la parata militare. "Le rivolgiamo una calda richiesta, che viene dal popolo della pace, di festeggiare il prossimo 2 giugno come vera festa della Costituzione, come festa del voto popolare che ha voluto la Repubblica e eletto la Costituente, e niente affatto come festa militare" - scrivono i promotori. Pur ammettendo la necessità dell'esercito i promotori sottolineano che "esso non ha avuto alcuna parte nell'evento storico del 2 giugno 1946, quando unico protagonista è stato il popolo sovrano e l'azione democratica disarmata: il voto". Da tempo il mondo pacifista si è mobilitato affinchè la parata militare sia estromessa dalle celebrazioni del 2 giugno.
