24.11.2006 The Panchayat Presidentship is not a bed of roses to the newly elected Dalit presidents in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu as a majority of them remain sheer puppets in the hands of the upper castes.

The recent gruesome murder of the newly elected panchayat president belongs to dalit community in Tirunelveli district of sourther Tamil Nadu (India), has once again proved that no political reservation in the local body elections would bring out any change in the plight of the entire Dalit community that remains thrown to the wolves under the oppression of the caste Hindus.

20.11.2006 "Il Parlamento e il Governo italiano assumano concretamente la lotta alle mafie come un'autentica priorità nazionale" e istituiscano il 21 marzo, primo giorno di primavera, la "Giornata nazionale in memoria di tutte le vittime di Mafia". E' questa la richiesta che Don Luigi Ciotti, all'indomani della chiusura dei lavori degli Stati generali antimafia convocati a Roma da 'Libera', ha avanzato formalmente al presidente della Camera, Fausto Bertinotti, a cui questa mattina ha consegnato il "Manifesto per un'Italia libertà dalla mafie", messo a punto durante la tre giorni romana dalla associazioni anti-mafia e anti-racket. Il "manifesto" chiede tra l’altro l'affidamento di una co-presidenza della Commissione nazionale antimafia alla società civile impegnata nelle battaglie civili e culturali contro le mafie.

14.11.2006 Il 4 novembre scorso è stato scarcerato Gerlando Alberti junior, condannato in primo grado dalla Corte d’Assise di Messina per l’omicidio di Graziella Campagna. Il giudice estensore della sentenza di primo grado non l’ha depositata nei tempi prescritti (600 giorni, cioè quasi due anni), facendo così scadere i termini della custodia cautelare. Questa negligenza permette che, in attesa del processo d’appello, la sentenza di primo grado resti sostanzialmente inapplicata. L’associazione Rita Atria ha lanciato un appello, sostenuto anche da altre riviste e associazioni antimafia, indirizzato al capo dello Stato Giorgio Napolitano e al Ministro di Grazia e Giustizia Clemente Mastella, per chiedere di sottoporre a procedimento disciplinare il giudice "che ha permesso la mortificazione della Giustizia". Il ministro Mastella ha inviato due ispettori a Messina per verificare eventuali inadempienze.

12.11.2006 Forse, anzi sicuramente, non è la Puglia, come molti in questi giorni hanno sostenuto cavalcando il clamore sollevato dallo scandalo degli arresti per caporalato in Trentino. Però è lo spaccato di una realtà, (se più o meno diffusa saranno le indagini e le ricerche già avviate intorno al fenomeno migratorio nella nostra provincia a stabilirlo) che molti non ammettevano o più semplicemente evitavano di considerare. Per non contaminare l’effigie (troppo) idealizzata di un Trentino isola felice di lavoro, guadagni, convivenze, integrazioni. Dove i fatti sembrano però confermare, una volta di più, alcuni dei più gravi problemi riscontrati nel resto del paese, anche per quanto riguarda questo tipo di fenomeni.
