Le peuple français vient de dire non au traité constitutionnel. Un non très majoritairement démocratique et européen. Ce faisant, les citoyennes et les citoyens ont d’abord dit non au néolibéralisme, dont le texte soumis à référendum constituait une éloquente défense et illustration.

Una gigantesca movilización de vecinos, trabajadores, universitarios y campesinos de El Alto marchan este martes sobre la sitiada ciudad de La Paz enarbolando la bandera de la nacionalización del gas y el petróleo. La ofensiva popular es poderosa y pone en tela de juicio el destino del poder político, ya que la exigencia popular es casi imposible que sea atendida por el pusilánime gobierno del presidente Carlos Mesa, un ferviente defensor de las transnacionales, y de un Congreso controlado por las fuerzas neoliberales que gobernaron con el ex presidente Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada, derrocado en octubre del 2003 por una insurrección popular.

Thirteen years after the deportations of tens of B&H refugees from Herzeg Novi back into war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Humanitarian Law Centre and the Group for Changes NGOs demanded that the authorities start investigation of the perpetrators and persons who ordered this crime against humanity.

Na tribini "Naš odnos prema Srebrenici” koja je održana u beogradskom Centru za kulturnu dekontaminaciju (CZKD) u organizaciji Centra za antiratnu akciju, nekoliko nevladinih organizacija i stranaka najavilo je da će Skupštini Srbije predložiti da usvoji deklaraciju o Srebrenici. Srbija bi se tom deklaracijom obavezala da prizna zločin počinjen u tom gradu.

The House of Representatives rejected a measure Wednesday calling on President Bush to devise a plan for an Iraq withdrawal. With talks of a pullout taboo a few months ago--by even progressive lawmakers--some argue that the proposal--and the 128 "yay" votes it received--indicates a change of attitude in Congress toward Iraq.

La capitale bolivienne a passé la journée d'hier isolée du reste du pays en raison des manifestations et des barrages de routes, auxquelles s'ajoutera aujourd'hui la fermeture de son aéroport international. Le président Carlos Mesa a répété qui continuera son mandat jusqu'en 2007 tandis que se multiplient les doutes sur cette possibilité.

Indian farmers campaigning against cultivation of GM crops won their first success against the U.S.-based company Monsanto by simply establishing that the genetically modified crops were less productive than normal crops. India's government on Tuesday withheld licenses for the commerical cultivation of three kinds of genetically modified cotton developed by Monsanto.

Demanding immediate withdrawal of the ban on news and informative programmes broadcast, Radio Journalists in Nepal have announced protest programmes. The government banned news broadcasts on FM radio after the royal coup took place in February this year.

The Indian government's Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) has withheld licenses for commercial cultivation on three varieties of genetically modified (GM) cotton developed by US firm Monsanto - Mech-12 Bt, Mech-162 Bt and Mech-184 Bt after a persistant campaign by Indian organisations.

The Centre for Science and Environment, which is a New Delhi based NGO, has issued a press release saying that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is holding its eleventh, crucial and final, meeting to set standards for soft drinks on Friday, May 27, 2005. The issues are critical as BIS is trying to set standards for pesticides, pH and caffeine in the soft drinks.
