29.03.2008 Thousands of children in Pakistan succumb to measles every year. All these deaths can be easily prevented with effective immunisation. The government has launched a comprehensive campaign against the disease, which will help protect 63 million children in the country.

Polio drops being administered
28.03.2008 Battle in India against polio is far from over. This year until February, 82 new cases have been detected despite the fact that the country has the largest ever mass immunisation campaign in the world going on since 2003.

25.03.2008 The latest WHO report: The Global Tuberculosis Control 2008 documents a slowdown in progress on diagnosing people with TB, citing lack of funds as the major reason. The report also stresses on combating new forms of the disease like multi-drug resistant TB and the lethal combination of TB/HIV.

The use of sub-standard car fuel and poor waste management has worsened the city’s air quality leading to an increase in respiratory disorders.

Il rapporto di MSF sulle 'crisi dimenticate' dai media
17.03.2008 Un preoccupante calo delle notizie delle principali edizioni dei telegiornali RAI e Mediaset sulle crisi umanitarie che passano dal 10% del totale delle notizie del 2006 all’8% del 2007 e nessuna traccia della Repubblica Centrafricana dove la popolazione è intrappolata nella morsa degli scontri tra gruppi armati. E' quanto segnala il recente rapporto di Medici Senza Frontiere sulle "Crisi umanitarie dimenticate dai media", un'analisi elaborata con l'Osservatorio di Pavia. Alla malnutrizione che ogni anno uccide 5 milioni di bambini sono state dedicate dai TG solo 18 notizie, in buona parte per appelli del Papa, mentre la crisi del Darfur ha avuto una maggiore copertura mediatica soprattutto per la visita nella regione dell'attore George Clooney e di altri divi di Hollywood.

07.03.2008 With money and technical assistance from the international community, Bangladesh government has achieved considerable success in installing sanitary latrines throughout the country, leading to significant reduction in diarrhoeal deaths. From the current 85% coverage, it appears that achieving sanitation for all by 2010 is very much possible.

04.03.2008 Dinas Kesehatan (Dinkes) Kota Surabaya meminta tiap-tiap lokalisasi membuat semacam kesepakatan lokal untuk menanggulangi bahaya HIV/AIDS. Di antara beberapa lokalisasi, baru Moroseneng yang membuat kesepakatan lokal tersebut, yakni memakai kondom. Kesepakatan itu dibuat PSK, mucikari, puskesmas, LSM, dan camat atau lurah setempat.

Empat orang tertular karena menggunakan narkoba suntik dan dua orang akibat hubungan seks bebas. Total pengidap HIV/AIDS yang terdeteksi oleh tim Voluntry Conseling Test (VCT) RSUD Andi Sultan Daeng Radja, Bulukumba, dalam dua tahun terakhir ini sebanyak 32 orang.
