12.06.2006 “Morte per diplomazia”: così Eric Sawyer, attivista sieropositivo americano, ha definito i risultati della II Conferenza dell'Onu sull’Aids conclusa la scorsa settimana a New York. A 5 anni dalla sottoscrizione di un piano globale per far fronte alla pandemia, che nel 2005 ha falcidiato quasi tre milioni di persone, la Conferenza dell’Ungass (la Sessione speciale dell'Onu per l'Aids) ha partorito infatti solo un documento non vincolante. “Scandalosa e mortale”, aveva stigmatizzato Kofi Annan la lentezza con cui i governi stanno affrontando il grande flagello che dagli anni ’80, quando fu scoperto il virus, ha mietuto più di 25 milioni di vittime. Nel mondo oggi quasi 40 milioni di persone soffrono della sindrome da immunodeficienza acquisita, il vero nome dell’Aids, e due terzi dei malati vivono nell’Africa nera. Si fa un gran parlare di Aids. Ma solo un sesto degli impegni sottoscritti nel 2001 con il primo Piano d’azione globale sono stati mantenuti. di Nicoletta Dentico
