International Labour Organisation (ILO) in association with the Foreign Employment Bureau OF Sri Lanka will take steps to educate prospective migrants on how to resist from HIV/AIDS, a deadly disease, shortly, ILO Co-ordinating Officer Dr. Indra Hettiarachchi said recently.

HIV infection is the most devastating new disease to have emerged in recent history. Although, worldwide, approximately as many women as men suffer from HIV, this aggregate figure conceals marked differences in the implications of the disease for men and women. Some of these result from biological differences in sex between men and women, but more result from socially defined gender differences.

La mayor parte de 25 mil delegadas y delegados han puesto su corazón desde que el VIH apareció en el mundo hace un cuarto de siglo, pero ni los gobiernos ricos ponen suficientes recursos para acabar con la pandemia, ni los países pobres ponen suficiente voluntad política, coincidieron aquí diversas voces en la XVI Conferencia Internacional sobre el Sida.

Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (RLL), announced that the company has received approval to manufacture and market Triviro-LNS kid and Triviro-LNS kid DS, both triple ARV combinations for children, in India. The company has also filed the product with WHO Geneva for pre-qualification.

Jo miljoona hiv-positiivista ihmistä saa antiretroviraalihoitoa Saharan eteläpuolisessa Afrikassa. Määrä on kymmenkertaistunut alle kolmessa vuodessa. Maailman terveysjärjestön mukaan työ on kuitenkin vasta alussa, sillä maailman 36 miljoonasta hiv/aidsia sairastavasta ihmisestä 95 prosenttia asuu kehitysmaissa, joilla on suuria vaikeuksia hoidon järjestämisessä.

Hiv/aidsiin sairastuneita sekä hiv-kampanjaan osallistuneita pidätettiin viime sunnuntaina Burmassa. Maan sotilashallitus osoitti jo vuosi sitten piittaamattomuutensa hiv-työtä kohtaan, määrättyään hiv-positiivisten hoitokodin suljettavaksi. YK epäilee maan hallituksen olevan kyvytön vastaamaan hiv-ongelmaan. Burmassa arvioidaan olevan satoja tuhansia hiv/aidsia sairastavia.
