Apart from highlighting the need for better access to healthcare facilities, the reports underline the cultural factors and prevalence of poverty as obstacles.

According to a recent study, around a million people will die of smoking in India alone in next two years. The country is on the threshold of a tobacco-unleashed epidemic, says Ramesh Menon, a journalist cum documentary filmmaker and recipient of the 2006 Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism.

Hundreds of children who had witnessed a blast in Afghanistan’s Baghlan city last November are still traumatised, suffering from paranoia, dizziness, stress and sleeping disorders. Health experts are of the view that children in the conflict-affected country are at risk of suffering deep scars of war.

Berdasasarkan hasil pendataan terhadap penderita HIV/AIDS, ternyata yang terkena itu umumnya kelompok usia produktif yang berusia antara 20 hingga 29 tahun. Kondisi ini perlu diwaspadai karena bisa mengganggu produktivitas dan masa depan generasi muda nantinya.

Nyaris semua lembaga pemasyarakatan (lapas) di Indonesia overload. Karena itulah tantangan penanggulangan HIV di lapas sangat kompleks. Pertama adalah soal risiko penularan HIV. Kedua, soal pelaksanaan terapi pengobatan dan perawatan orang dengan HIV/AIDS di lapas. Sulit mengawasi perilaku-perilaku berisiko dalam penularan HIV, seperti pembuatan tato atau tindik tubuh dengan jarum yang tidak steril.

Apakah penderita sifilis juga berarti terkena HIV/AIDS? Jawabannya, menderita sifilis, tidak otomatis terkena HIV/AIDS. Karena, bila tidak ada tanda-tanda, keluhan, atau gejala yang khas pada diri seseorang yang sudah tertular HIV/AIDS sebelum mencapai masa AIDS (antara 5–10 tahun setelah tertular), maka dapat dikatakan ia tidak tertular penyakit mematikan itu.(

Penyebaran penyakit HIV/AIDS di Kab. Tulungagung masuk kategori mengkhawatirkan. Hasil estimasi Komisi Penanggulangan AIDS (KPA) pusat ada sekitar seribu penderita HIV/AIDS yang hidup di kota marmer pada tahun 2007. Diperkirakan, pada 2008 ini angka tersebut bakal bertambah.(

In merito alle acque dei Pozzi S. Angelo, in provincia di Pescara, l’Istituto Superiore di Sanità in una nota afferma che "l'esistenza di discariche di rifiuti tossici nelle aree a monte delle zone di captazione delle acque configura una situazione di rischio per la salute umana. Superamenti dei valori di sicurezza nella misura indicata nei dati trasmessi da codesta associazione evidenziano in ogni caso una situazione di non conformità tale da rendere l'acqua non idonea per il consumo umano". Si confermano così le analisi effettuate dal WWF Abruzzo e dai comitati civici. Il WWF Abruzzo denuncia "il completo fallimento di un intero sistema di prevenzione e controllo, aggravato dal fatto che si sapeva da anni e nessuno, fino alla nostra denuncia, è intervenuto". di Alessio Di Florio

Soebandi, Jember, bila rencana Pemerintah mencabut bantuan pengobatan pasien HIV AIDS di klinik Voluentary Consulting Test (VCT) dan rumah sakit itu benar, dikhawatirkan para pasien HIV AIDS akan lari dan tidak mau memeriksakan diri lagi.
