The India-Pakistan border is increasingly being used for smuggling narcotics into India, a senior United Nations official said.Addressing a press conference to mark the release of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) 2006 World Drug Report here, Gary Lewis, UNODC Representative for South Asia, said increased trans-border civilian movement could be one of the reasons.

La Coalizione contro i pericoli derivanti dalla Bayer (CBG) ha denunciato oggi il Presidente del Consiglio di Amministrazione della Bayer, Werner Wenning, alla Procura di Colonia. La Coalizione accusa il manager di aver tollerato o orchestrato la partecipazione della Compagnia ad accordi illegali sui prezzi. Negli ultimi anni la Bayer č stata condannata in numerosi casi di reati di cartello. Nel solo ultimo anno finanziario, la compagnia ha dovuto pagare 275 milioni di euro in multe. "Stiamo parlando di accordi di cartello per cifre di parecchie centinaia di milioni di euro. E' impensabile che decisioni di questa magnitudine siano state prese senza che il Presidente ne fosse a conoscenza. L'effetto deterrente si puņ avere solo se i dirigenti responsabili rischiano seriamente una condanna penale" - ha detto Philipp Mimkes della CBG. La Coalizione č convinta che la maggior parte degli accordi illegali sui prezzi non sia stata ancora scoperta. E il prezzo lo pagano i consumatori.

Last week, the Novi List daily published and interview with Herman Haller, Director of Clinical Centre Rijeka. In the interview that discussed the introduction of a vaccine for cancer of the uterus, Dr. Haller said that the official introduction of this vaccine should be discussed at many levels, including a discussion with the (Catholic) Church.

"Le droghe non sono un gioco da bambini": č il tema scelto quest'anno dall'Ufficio delle Nazioni Unite contro la Droga e il Crimine (Unodc) per la "Giornata internazionale contro l'abuso e il traffico illecito di droga", che si č celebrata ieri 26 giugno. Il tema scelto ha lo scopo di sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica sul potere distruttivo delle droghe e al contempo di responsabilizzare la societą affinché il benessere dei bambini sia sempre una prioritą. Le stime pił recenti indicano che 200 milioni di persone fra i 15 ed i 64 anni, hanno fatto uso di droghe illecite almeno una volta negli ultimi 12 mesi. Intanto, in Italia il ministro della Salute Livia Turco ha annunciato di voler elevare, con atto amministrativo, il limite del quantitativo massimo di cannabis detenibile per uso personale senza incorrere nello spaccio e in provvedimenti punitivi fino all'arresto e al carcere. Il ministro Turco istituirą inoltre una Consulta sulle tossicodipendenze coinvolgendo anche i privati e, assieme alle Regioni ed ai ministeri della Pubblica istruzione e delle Politiche giovanili, avvierą un piano di prevenzione contro la droga, rivolto a chi inizia a consumare sostanze stupefacenti.

It is the responsibility of the administration to prevent maternal deaths but it seems it has now the only duty of counting the number of deaths. Death continues to haunt families in Keonjhar district of Orissa and the wide gap in the sex ratio here is an outcome of profuse maternal deaths.

For the second consecutive year, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) has come to the aid of HIV/AIDS patients.The bank, as part of its corporate social responsibility, has initiated a programme titled 'Caring patients living with AIDS' under which the HIV-positive people receive medical support and food supplements.
