29.11.2006 Maailman aids-päivää vietetään perjantaina ensimmäinen joulukuuta. Aids-päivänä korostetaan erityisesti nuorten merkitystä hiv-tartuntojen ehkäisemisessä. Suomessa on tänä vuonna rekisteröity enemmän hiv-tartuntoja kuin koskaan aiemmin. Noin kolmasosa kaikista Suomessa rekisteröidyistä tartunnoista on alle 30-vuotiailla.

28.11.2006 Suomen Punainen Risti lahjoittaa Maailman aids-päivänä ensimmäinen joulukuuta 100 000 euroa aidsin vastaiseen työhön eteläisessä Afrikassa. Avustus ohjataan Malawiin ja Etelä-Afrikkaan, joiden tartuntatilanne on erittäin huolestuttava. Suomen Punaisen Ristin tekemä lahjoitus tulee osaksi laajaa, koko eteläisen Afrikan kattavaa kansainvälisen Punaisen Ristin hiv-ohjelmaa.
