Maailman aids-päivää vietetään perjantaina ensimmäinen joulukuuta. Aids-päivänä korostetaan erityisesti nuorten merkitystä hiv-tartuntojen ehkäisemisessä. Suomessa on tänä vuonna rekisteröity enemmän hiv-tartuntoja kuin koskaan aiemmin. Noin kolmasosa kaikista Suomessa rekisteröidyistä tartunnoista on alle 30-vuotiailla.

Suomen Punainen Risti lahjoittaa Maailman aids-päivänä ensimmäinen joulukuuta 100 000 euroa aidsin vastaiseen työhön eteläisessä Afrikassa. Avustus ohjataan Malawiin ja Etelä-Afrikkaan, joiden tartuntatilanne on erittäin huolestuttava. Suomen Punaisen Ristin tekemä lahjoitus tulee osaksi laajaa, koko eteläisen Afrikan kattavaa kansainvälisen Punaisen Ristin hiv-ohjelmaa.

100 000 intialaista lasta vaatii maan hallitusta täyttämään lupauksensa osoittaa yhdeksän prosenttia bruttokansantulosta koulutukseen ja terveydenhuoltoon. "Nine is mine" -kampanja tähtää YK:n vuosituhattavoitteiden saavuttamiseen.

Mbaje Premtimin!” në 10 komuna të përzgjedhura për këtë projekt. Dita Ndërkombëtare Kundër HIV/AIDS, 1 Dhjetori 2006, do të shënohet në Prishtinë.

The health ministry is attempting to regulate and standardise the nature of healthcare being provided to Indian citizens by introducing a new law -- the Clinical Establishment Act -- to register all healthcare infrastructure within the next two years.

Hiv-tartuntojen jatkuva lisääntyminen on ongelma sekä Euroopan unionin maissa että Venäjän Federaatiossa. EU:n ja Venäjän kansalaisjärjestöt kokoontuvat Lahdessa EU:n ja Venäjän kansalaisfoorumissa tulevana viikonloppuna.

Indian health professionals have expressed their concern over a failing public health system that threatens to erode earlier health gains. Speaking at the ISF, social activists said that inequitable global economic structure is leading to stagnant or declining health budgets. "I Paesi poveri aspettano la cancellazione totale del debito che grazie ad accordi multilaterali e bilaterali aprirà ai Paesi indebitati la via per un accesso di tutti ai beni e per soddisfare necessità di base per vita e sviluppo, come l'acqua potabile, la sanità, programmi nutrizionali, educazione, microcredito e opportunità di lavoro" - ha detto il cardinale Martino acquistando a Londra, a nome del Papa, il primo bond dell'Iffim (il meccanismo di finanziamento per le vaccinazioni ideato dal ministro delle finanze inglese Gordon Brown). Con l'acquisto del bond il Papa "riconosce il bisogno di provvedere rapidamente ai fondi per rispondere alla povertà". "Chi vive nella povertà estrema - ha sottolineato il cardinale - continua ad aspettare da quei governi che avevano promesso di fornire lo 0,7% del proprio Pil, mettano in pratica i loro impegni". La vendita di bond è la prima nel suo genere: l'obiettivo complessivo è quello di raccogliere 4 miliardi di euro nei prossimi 10 anni salvando così la vita a 10 milioni di persone tra cui 5 milioni di bambini.
