Maan ystävät vaatii Nestettä luopumaan palmuöljystä energiaratkaisuna. Neste Oil suunnittelee käyttävänsä palmuöljyä biodieselinsä pääasiallisena raaka-aineena, kun sen Porvoon jalostamo aloittaa toimintansa 2007. Tänään julkistettu Finnwatchin raportti "Palmuöljystä biopolttoainetta" osoittaa, ettei palmuöljyn energiakäyttö voi olla kestävällä pohjalla.

Tieteilijöiden mukaan ilmastonmuutos on tosiasia. YK:n ilmastonmuutoskonferenssissa käsitellään päästöjen vähentämistä ja ilmastonmuutokseen sopeutumista. Ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutukset alkavat olla selvästi nähtävissä. Tieteilijöiden mukaan ilmaston lämpeneminen on jo aiheuttanut aikaisempaa enemmän tulvia, kuivuuskausia, hurrikaaneja ja metsäpaloja.
