E' ancora allarme incendi nel Sud Italia con più di trenta interventi da parte dei vigili del fuoco di Calabria, Sicilia e Campania. Ieri un incendio doloso ha colpito la Riserva naturale marina di Torre Guaceto bruciando circa 100 ettari di canneto e macchia mediterranea. "Il ritardo dei comuni nella realizzazione del catasto delle aree percorse dal fuoco, soprattutto in Calabria e Sicilia, rappresenta un problema grave" – afferma Legambiente nel ribadire la necessità di intervenire in modo deciso sull’emergenza incendi praticando tolleranza zero verso i piromani. E la Lav ha chiesto al Ministro dell’Interno, Giuliano Amato, di dare disposizioni ai Prefetti affinché procedano al posto dei sindaci inadempienti alla mappatura delle zone incendiate e al Ministro della Giustizia, Clemente Mastella, di dare impulso alla magistratura inquirente affinché indaghi sui Comuni che non hanno provveduto alla realizzazione del catasto per individuare eventuali connivenze.

Il mare italiano è un po' più pulito e le spiagge che hanno superato a pieni voti gli esami della balneazione sono l’87,6% del totale. Ma la percentuale di acque fluviali che arrivano alla foce pulite si è pressoché dimezzata da un anno all’altro: era il 23,3% nel 2006, è il 13,6% quest’estate. E' il bilancio finale della Goletta Verde di Legambiente che avverte: ci sono 28 corsi d’acqua dove c’è una situazione di grave contaminazione, dove l’inquinamento batterico arriva a superare di oltre dieci volte i limiti imposti dalla normativa sulla balneazione. Dopo il crollo della terrazza della villa privata a Conca dei Marini, Legambiente denuncia che "la costiera è un enorme cantiere abusivo tollerato" e ribadisce l'allarme sull'abusivismo costiero riportato nel dossier "Mare Mostrum 2007".

Addressing the 17th annual World Water Week in the Swedish capital of Stockholm, UN Under-Secretary-General told a meeting of more than 2,000 water professionals that water is going to be the dominant world issue far into the current century. And there is an urgency to find new approaches which will better utilise for our precious natural resources as supply of water may threaten the social stability.

Greenpeace has asked Surya Roshni, one of the leading bulb manufacturers in India, to stop manufacturing incandescent light bulbs. Greenpeace's Ban the Bulb Campaign calls for a progressive phase out of inefficient lighting in India to reduce energy wastage and fight climate change.

The north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh planted 10.5million trees on a single day, on 31 July 2007. The campaign was led by the Forest Department to raise awareness and increase tree cover.

Tidak terima idolanya, MS Ka'ban, didemo oleh aktivis Walhi, sekelompok massa yang menamakan diri BPK ganti mendemo Walhi. Aksi demo balasan oleh pendukung MS Ka'ban ini jelas kontraproduktif bagi upaya pelestarian hutan Indonesia.
