Nigeria: Development
Nigeria is a country with vast cultural diversity, social, human and natural capital; many of its people are however suffering in the midst of this plenty.
The current economy of Nigeria under this democratic government has been noted to be moving to a better position, than it was under the past military rulers. According to the Nigeria Ministry of Finance the country recorded a 10 per cent economic growth in 2004; and the GDP per capital currently stands at $860, however the economic growth is without a human face, as it is not reflected in the life of the ordinary citizen of the country.
The United Nations human development report indicates that Nigeria is still ranking 151 in the human development indicator (HDI) and has over 90 percent of its population living below $2 a day.

Conflict among three tribal groups in Nigeria's Delta State--the cause of hundreds of deaths this year alone--is not about ethnic strife, but rather access to political patronage that provides opportunities to skim profits from lucrative oil operations, says a Human Rights Watch report released Wednesday, offering suggestions for stemming the violence.
