A farmer using water for irrigation

12.07.2007 Economic growth eludes the poor in South Asia, according to the recently-released UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Report 2007. The report says that over 30 per cent of the population still lives on a dollar a day in the region.

11.07.2007 La campagna "Acqua Pubblica, ci metto la firma!" ha consegnato ieri mattina al presidente della Camera, Fausto Bertinotti, oltre 400mila firme per una proposta di legge di iniziativa popolare che chiede la "ripubblicizzazione del serivizio idrico" e cioč che governo e gestione della risorsa idrica tornino ad essere interamente pubblici. In questi mesi di mobilitazione la campagna ha coinvolto circa 1000 comitati territoriali e 80 organizzazioni nazionali: "Un esempio di bella politica" - ha sottolineato Emilio Molinari del Forum Italiano dei Movimenti per l'Acqua. Il Forum chiede che la proposta di legge venga immediatamente calendarizzata e che nel frattempo anche il Senato, dopo la Camera approvi la moratoria su tutte le privatizzazioni in atto.
