After languishing for 17 years in temporary camps, some 108,000 ethnic Nepalis, expelled from their homeland in Bhutan, have a real chance to get out of the wilderness. But they are really apprehensive of about the details as the dissemination of information is needed to allay their fears who want to opt for resettlement in third countries.

A research by the National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) – an advisory body to the Indian government and a watchdog for the informal sector – throws light on shocking levels of poverty amongst 836 million informal workers who eke out a living on a mere Rs 20 a day.

BADDAWI CAMP, Northern Lebanon, Aug 13 (IPS) - Palestinians displaced by the fighting at the northern Lebanese refugee camp Nahr al-Bared have accused the Lebanese Army of torturing and abusing civilians.

La situazione in Iraq è drammatica: la rete elettrica è prossima al collasso, mentre un terzo della popolazione è in stato d’emergenza umanitaria e almeno due milioni di persone hanno cercato rifugio dalle violenze fuggendo all’estero, cioè due mila iracheni in fuga ogni giorno. Intanto il parlamento iracheno non è riuscito ad approvare la legge sul petrolio e sul gas prima della pausa estiva malgrado le forti pressioni di Washington. "Ma è tutt’altro che una cattiva notizia dato che nel Paese si fa sempre più forte e diffusa l’opposizione a quella che oramai in molti considerano una minaccia significativa per gli interessi nazionali" - commenta 'Un ponte per...' che da tempo segue la vicenda a fianco dei sindacalisti locali e chiedendo all'Eni di non partecipare alla "svendita" del petrolio iracheno. Nei giorni scorsi il governo iracheno ha ordinato di considerare illegali le organizzazioni sindacali del settore e qualunque organismo che ad esse faccia riferimento.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 2 (OneWorld) - Nearly one in three Iraqis need immediate emergency aid because of a humanitarian crisis that's developed over four years of U.S. occupation, according to a new report out this week.
