The government’s plan to make blending of 5% ethanol with petrol mandatory from October 2006 is a welcome step. But for a steady supply, we need a long-term, comprehensive policy on biofuels with clear targets, a well-defined pricing policy and a road-map to develop a variety of feedstock options for biofuel production.

The Indian government's Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources and the UNDP/GEF hold a demonstration on biomethanation technologies which can be easily replicated and can help in cutting down on green house gases. The Indian government is considering mainstreaming these technologies for its waste-to-energy programmes.

Un plafond di due milioni di euro per finanziare la diffusione di impianti termici a biomasse legnose di media taglia, che utilizzano combustibili rinnovabili come legna da ardere, cippato di origine agroforestale, pellet o briquettes. È questa la nuova proposta di Banca popolare Etica, rivolta a soggetti sia pubblici che privati, singoli o associati, su tutto il territorio nazionale. L’iniziativa è realizzata in collaborazione con Aiel, l’Associazione italiana energie agroforestali, attiva dal 2001 su iniziativa della Confederazione italiana agricoltori. Per accedere ai finanziamenti, che verranno erogati da Banca Etica a condizioni vantaggiose, sarà necessario partecipare al bando di selezione inviando il proprio progetto entro il termine ultimo, fissato per il 18 luglio prossimo.

The Care International in SCG and the Democratic Association of the Roma started the first educational programme for collectors of materials for recycling. The programme consists of three-month series of trainings in the fields of occupational protection, traffick regulations education, sorting of waste, technology for recycling of waste plastics and paper and environmental protection.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) - a grouping of seven south Asian neighbours - held a meeting with the World Energy Council (WEC) in India recently over the unrealised potential of renewable energy and to discuss a role for public-private partnerships.
