The latest 5th edition of the Key Indicators of the Labour Market (KILM) report, published every other year by the International Labour Organization, makes available labour market information, analysis and key elements. A set of 20 labour market indicators covers the various features of decent work deficits worldwide, keeping in mind the changing labour market conditions.

Positive development in working conditions at Veracel pulp mill is partly due to cooperation between Brazilian and Finnish paper workers’ unions, Sinap and Paperiliitto. The goal of the project is to organize Veracel’s employees and to improve their chances of safeguarding their interests.

India’s first attempt to introduce social security and other welfare schemes for workers in the unorganised sector, which constitutes an overwhelming majority of the country’s workforce, has received Cabinet approval. But it will have to wait until the winter session of Parliament to be passed into law.

Zimbabwen ammatillinen keskusjärjestö on ilmoittanut järjestävänsä toisen valtakunnallisen työnseisauksen syyskuun 19.-20. päivinä. Edellinen työnseisaus pidettiin huhtikuussa, minkä jälkeen inflaatio on kivunnut lähes 8000 prosenttiin. Hallitus on ilmoittanut, ettei se aio "vain istua ja katsoa, kun ammattiliitto rampauttaa Zimbabwen lakkoilullaan".

Duoyuanin muovituotetehdas Etelä-Kiinassa on kova työnantaja työntekijöilleen: se vaatii heitä tekemään kuukaudessa jopa 300 työtuntia, mikä loukkaa pahanlaisesti Kiinan työlainsäädäntöä. Muovi- ja lelutehtaissa laitonta on usein myös se, ettei ylityötunneilta makseta korotettua palkkaa.

Il settore edile è uno dei settori che maggiormente richiede manodopera straniera: circa il 17% degli stranieri che lavorano regolarmente in Italia sono impiegati proprio nel settore delle costruzioni e in Trentino nel 2006 erano 4.302 gli operai stranieri attivi nel settore dell’edilizia su un totale di 16.556 registrati presso la Cassa Edile. "Ma questi dati non tengono conto del 'lavoro nero' dove si stimano percentuali per il settore intorno al 13%" – afferma 'MIGRA-Osservatorio sulla discriminazione degli immigrati nel lavoro' che organizza per domani, 14 settembre, un incontro a Pergine (TN) proprio sul tema "Edilizia e lavoro immigrato: opportunità, discriminazione e lavoro nero". Dopo aver affrontato le questioni legate al lavoro immigrato nel turismo e nell'agricoltura, Migra propone questo appuntamento in vista del 18 dicembre quando con un Convegno a Trento presenterà i risultati della ricerca dell’Osservatorio sul lavoro immigrato nel Trentino.

The Unorganised Sector Workers Social Security Bill that has been mired in controversy, following trade union protests on the grounds that it was inadequate, is likely to be cleared by the Indian cabinet. The Bill is likely to incorporate some but not all concerns of the trade unions.
