31.08.2006 A new report on labour and social trends in South Asia warns of a growing socio-economic disconnect in the sub region, as economic growth and improved productivity fail to translate adequately into job creation and better wages. The report, Labour and Social Trends in Asia and the Pacific 2006: Progress towards Decent Work has been produced by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

Työläisiä Kiinassa
31.08.2006 Etelä-Koreassa pidettävässä ILOn konferenssissa pohditaan Aasian työllisyystilannetta ja säällisiä työoloja. Aasian voimakas talouskasvu ei ole tuonut tarvittavia lisäyksiä työpaikkojen määrään. Myös työoloissa ja työntekijöiden oikeuksien toteutumisessa on runsaasti puutteita. Kansalaisjärjestöt toivovat asian nostamista esiin myös Asem-kokouksessa.

30.08.2006 "La discriminazione nei confronti dei lavoratori immigrati è un fenomeno abbastanza generalizzato nell'Ue che per essere affrontato deve vedere il coinvolgimento e la cooperazione delle politiche pubbliche e degli interlocutori sociali". E' una delle conclusioni di un’audizione recentemente tenuta a Dublino su iniziativa del Comitato economico e sociale europeo (CESE) che ha visto la partecipazione di diversi interlocutori sociali tra cui la Confederazione europea dei sindacati. Intanto la Commissione inglese per l’Uguaglianza razziale ha illustrato i risultati dell’attività di monitoraggio della implementazione della legge che dal 2000 impone alle amministrazioni pubbliche di andare oltre la prevenzione della discriminazione e di mettere in atto azioni per promuovere l’uguaglianza.

30.08.2006 It is nearly two decades since the Indian government banned child labour in Firozabad's bangle and glassware industry and created a law to rehabilitate thousands of children who had now been plucked out of factories. The reality is that the schools are shabby with no furniture and no teaching materials and many children continue to work in the factories.

02.08.2006 Kansainvälinen työjärjestö ILO on osoittanut Burman hallinnon viivyttelevän pakkotyön lopettamista. Pakkotyö on Burmassa laitonta, mutta sitä käytetään erityisesti armeijaa hyödyntävissä aputehtävissä. Ellei Burman johto ole edistynyt pakkotyön lopettamisessa tulevaan marraskuuhun mennessä, ILO voi viedä asian Haagin kansainvälinen oikeuden käsittelyyn.
