25.05.2006 Fortissime proteste dei lavoratori tessili sono in corso da alcuni giorni in Bangladesh: le forze di sicurezza sono state inviate dal governo a presidiare gli stabilimenti tessili della capitale Dhaka dopo che negli ultimi giorni si sono succeduti scontri tra manifestanti e forze dell’ordine, nei quali ha trovato la morte almeno due lavoratori e ne sono rimasti feriti almeno altri cento. Il dispiegamento di forze, secondo l’esecutivo bangladese, è una misura preventiva per evitare nuove eruzioni di violenza e assalti alle fabbriche, dopo che almeno 14 stabilimenti tessili sono stati dati alle fiamme. Il governo ha fatto arrestare diversi sindacalisti: uno è stato rilasciato, ma altri sono stati bendati e torturati - riporta la Clean Clothes Campaign che da tempo ha richiamato l'attenzione sulla necessità di adottare misure strutturali che pongano fine alle continue violazioni dei diritti nel settore tessile dove i lavoratori sono costretti ad orari e condizioni di lavoro inumani e ricevono salari da fame. La Campgna invita a mandare una mail all'Ambasciata chiedendo che si ponga fine agli arresti arbitrari e alle torture e che si salvaguardino i diritti dei lavoratori.

Lo sfruttamento del lavoro è infatti ancora un problema a Sialkot, in Pakistan, capitale mondiale della produzione di palloni da calcio.
