Efforts to develop cooperation between six industrial trade unions have advanced to a new phase. In mid- December the unions chose SAK’s bargaining department head, Lauri Lyly, to examine the options for future relations between the six unions. The main alternatives lie between a full merger and closer cooperation.

Employment of children is a criminal offence under Section 14 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986. The employer can be jailed for not less than 3 months but which may extend to one year or with fine which shall not be less than Rupees ten thousand but which may extend to Rupees Twenty thousand or both

"Già un solo lavoratore immigrato sfruttato per caporalato sarebbe troppo, ma ritengo comunque che il fenomeno del lavoro irregolare nelle nostre campagne sia poca cosa. Non per questo dobbiamo abbassare la guardia. Ma occorre anche trovare modalità per poter disporre, in modo legale, di un numero sufficiente di immigrati da impiegare nel lavoro" - ha affermato Gabriele Calliari di Coldiretti al dibattito su "Caporalato in Trentino?" organizzato ieri a Cles, da Migra (Osservatorio sulla discriminazione degli immigrati nel lavoro). Con meno enfasi anche Antonio Rapanà della Cgil è d'accordo. Ma ha aggiunto: «Sull'immigrazione, comunque, la nostra Provincia non ha messo in cantiere politiche di accoglienza all'altezza».

Kiinassa valmistellaan uutta työlainsäädäntöä. Huhtikuussa julkistettu lakiluonnos lisäisi työntekijöiden oikeuksia. Työsuojelu ja vähimmäispalkkojen toteutumisen valvonta tehostuisivat. Lisäksi työntekijöiden mahdollisuudet rajoittaa irtisanomisia paranisivat ja viikkotyöaikojen enimmäismääriä rajoitettaisiin.

Il 18 dicembre, in occasione della Giornata mondiale dei diritti dei migranti, L'Osservatorio Migra intende portare all'attenzione il problema dello sfruttamento del lavoro migrante in Trentino. Per questo terrà a Cles, nella Valle di Non (TN) un Convegno su "Caporalato in Trentino?" al quale interverranno Gabriele Calliari (Coldiretti), Antonio Rapanà (CGIL), Gianni Tomasi (UIL) e il giornalista Walter Nicoletti. Il fenomeno è emerso dopo che nelle scorse settimane dieci persone, tra cui alcuni titolari di aziende agricole della Valle di Non (Trento), sono state arrestate al termine di un'operazione condotta dalla Polizia contro la tratta di esseri umani e il caporalato. Le indagini della squadra mobile di Trento hanno consentito di individuare una presunta organizzazione criminale transnazionale, operante tra il Marocco e l'Italia, che in cambio di compensi faceva giungere numerosi extracomunitari in Trentino dove venivano utilizzati come lavoratori in nero per la raccolta di mele.

Kun SASK perustettiin 20 vuotta sitten, maailma oli melko lailla toisenlainen. Espanja ja Portugali liittyivät Euroopan yhteisöön ja Renny Harlinin elokuva Jäätävä polte laitettiin Suomessa ulkopoliittisista syistä esityskieltoon, muisteli SASKin hallituksen puheenjohtaja Jarkko Eloranta SASKin 20-vuotista taivalta juhlistaneessa seminaarissa Helsingissä.

Vaatealan yrityksillä olisi paljon parannettavaa, mitä tulee sosiaalisen vastuun kysymyksiin niiden tuotantomaissa. Tiistaina julkistetussa esiselvityksessä haastateltiin 13 suurinta suomalaista vaatealan yritystä. Ainoastaan kahden yrityksen, Stockmannin ja samaan konserniin kuuluvan Seppälän, tehtaissa tehdään tällä hetkellä minkäänlaisia ulkopuolisia tarkastuskäyntejä.

Euroopan komissio haluaa tuleviin kahdenvälisiin kauppasopimuksiin määräyksiä työelämän kansainvälisten perusnormien kunnioittamisesta. Näin kertoi tiistaina Brysselissä EU:n kauppakomissaari Peter Mandelson. Hänen mukaansa komissio aikoo edistää kahdenvälisten kauppasopimusten avulla paitsi säällisiä työehtoja myös muita kestävän kehityksen vaatimia asioita.

Israelissa kymmenille tuhansille kunnantyöntekijöille ei ole maksettu palkkaa kuukausiin. Heidän työnantajansa ovat pahasti velkaantuneita ja kassakriisissä, eikä valtio suostu siirtämään surkeasti hoidetuille kunnille maksuosuuksiaan. Heikoimmassa tilassa olevat kunnat maksoivat työntekijöilleen palkkaa viimeksi vuoden alkukuukausina.

MSB, a company based in Gdansk in Northern Poland, is seriously in breech of labour legislation rules in regard to its work sites in Finland in what amounts to dumping working conditions. Polish electricians have been paid only 5 hours per hour, a third of the hourly rate laid down by the Finnish collective agreement.

Ann Selin, president of the Service Union United, is not satisfied with the government's goal in narrowing the pay gap between women and men. In 2004, the average pay for women was 80 per cent of the average pay for men making the gap even wider than it was in 1999.
