31.08.2005 The UN has reported that an increasing number of people are disappearing in Nepal and this is being done by both - the government as well as the Maoist rebels. In another report, UNICEF has said that an estimated 2.4 million children and women are trafficked every year for prostitution, forced labour and mining work.

29.08.2005 Six years ago in Northern Uganda, Sarah (not her real name), was abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group that forcibly uses children as soldiers, and in the case of girls, sex slaves. Now over 70 children, including Sarah and her five year old daughter, have been reunited with their families through World Vision’s rehabilitation program.

26.08.2005 Sarajevo, renowned as the culture capital of the Balkans is living up to this reputation by hosting the 11th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) from 19 to 27 August. Already thousands of visitors have poured into BiH’s capital, to join BiH citizens celebrate movies from all over the world. But a special part of the Festival is attracting every day thousands of spectators to Skenderija Hall, the famous sports complex used during the 1984 Winter Olympics: the Children’s Programme.

Schoolgirls in Zimbabwe
24.08.2005 Ninety percent of Zimbabwean children affected by the government's home demolition campaign remain in school, said UNICEF Tuesday, and called on international assistance to support parents’ efforts to keep their children enrolled in school in the face of harsh economic realities.

23.08.2005 Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF) lancia un appello al Segretario Generale delle Nazioni Unite affinché vengano prese le misure necessarie perché le agenzie umanitarie delle Nazioni Unite, Programma Alimentare Mondiale (PAM) e UNICEF, distribuiscano gli aiuti in funzione dei bisogni reali della popolazione. "Le distribuzioni di cibo organizzate dal PAM non rispondono, né in quantitą né in qualitą, alla gravitą dell'epidemia di malnutrizione acuta che i team di MSF stanno affrontando, in particolare rispetto ai bisogni dei bambini gravemente malnutriti" - denuncia l'associazione umanitaria.

23.08.2005 La vendita e il commercio di bambini a scopo di sfruttamento sessuale e non solo č un fenomeno ben pił ampio di quanto emerga dalle statistiche. E la maggior parte dei minori vittime č priva di protezione adeguata. E' quanto emerge da "La punta dell'iceberg", un briefing diffuso da Save the Children in occasione della Giornata Internazionale in Ricordo del Commercio degli Schiavi e della sua Abolizione. Sono circa 1,2 milioni i minori di 18 anni vittime di tratta nel mondo: bambini e adolescenti venduti o comprati, rapiti o adescati per essere poi utilizzati prevalentemente nell'industria del sesso e della prostituzione ma anche nell'accattonaggio, in attivitą illegali quali furti, nell'ambito delle adozioni illegali e del traffico di organi, in lavori irregolari. Si calcola che i bambini rappresentino il 30% delle vittime della tratta di esseri umani. Un fenomeno in aumento soprattutto in Europa, dove la tratta di minori č raddoppiata negli ultimi 3 anni.

Child soldier, Uganda
23.08.2005 For 19 years, the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) has been battling the government of Uganda for political power. The LRA abducts children to serve in his army as laborers or fighters, and in the case of girls, sex slaves. World Vision asks you to help end the children's suffering.
