New Transport minister Chris Murungaru yesterday came out fighting against accusations that he is corrupt, declaring himself to be completely clean. But he said that if he were proved guilty of graft, he would not wait to be sacked; instead he would resign on the spot and seek forgiveness.

Erratic rainfall has caused massive crop failure in Kenya, prompting Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki to declare a national disaster in July. At the same time, a harmful grain mold, aflatoxin, has contaminated some of the grain that was harvested, forcing the government to destroy some of its own grain reserves.

Kenya's mediation efforts in the peace process of the Sudanese conflict has received praise from many states and institutions. Recently President Bush of the USA pledged to support Kenya in its quest to end the conflict. The Sudanese Peace talks are hosted in Naivasha, a town 90 km northwest of Nairobi, Kenya.
