Zarema Muzhakhoyeva is one of the so-called Black Widows, women responsible for bombings in Russia's biggest cities who are fuelling the fear that Chechen women are now prepared to fight in place of their dead husbands. The fear is well-founded: female suicide bombers in Russia have accounted for more than 260 military and civilian deaths in less than five years. They have downed domestic flights, blown themselves up near restaurants, in subway stations, at rock concerts, and they were involved in both the Dubrovka theatre hostage-taking and the Beslan school massacre.

The evidence revealed in the Downing Street Memo, that the Bush administration fudged intelligence to justify invading Iraq, has Baker's brother outraged: "My brother died...to satisfy the Bush administration's public relations agenda."

Kansainvälinen Punainen Risti on julkistanut laajan tutkimuksen sodan tapaoikeudesta. Erityisen suuri merkitys tapaoikeudella on valtioiden sisäisissä konflikteissa. Tutkimus nostaa esiin 161 humanitaarisen tapaoikeuden sääntöä ja korostaa näin ihmisten suojaa aseellisissa selkkauksissa. Nämä säännöt koskevat paitsi valtioita myös kaikkia konfliktin osapuolia, esimerkiksi kapinallisia.

JERUSALEM, Jun 16 (IPS) - It might have been expected that Israel, not wanting to have pictures broadcast of Palestinians triumphantly entering the evacuated homes of settlers in the Gaza Strip, would want to demolish those homes. It might equally have been expected that the Palestinians, wanting to be seen marching into the homes of their retreating occupiers, would want the houses to remain intact.
