29.11.2007 Hundreds of Muslim women from across India, along with academics, social experts and parliamentarians, addressed social, livelihood, legal and religious issues of the community at the first annual convention of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA) in Delhi. The campaign also called for the implementation of the 2006 Justice Sachar Committee report for better education and employment facilities.

23.11.2007 La senatrice Lidia Menapace (Prc) ha risposto ieri dalle pagine de "il manifesto" alla nota di p. Alex Zanotelli sulla "Finanziaria armata" approvata al Senato anche dalla cosiddetta Sinistra radicale. "Delusione profonda verso la Sinistra Critica che in piazza chiede la chiusura dei 'lager per gli immigrati', parla contro le guerre e l'imperialismo e poi vota con la Destra per rifinanziarli" – scriveva p. Alex. "La questione – risponde la Menapace – non è di volta in volta rimanere esterrefatti (...) ma se ci si debba considerare legati al patto di sostenere questo governo o se invece si viene formalmente sollecitati a farlo cadere". La senatrice ribadisce di considerarsi "legata al patto con gli elettori", "ma sono aperta al dibattito su questo tema, purché fosse indicato così: bisogna buttare giù questo governo e indicare quali vantaggi ne seguirebbero". Il dibattito, insomma, è aperto e attende la replica anche del "movimento della pace" che - a detta di p. Zanotelli - "dorme sonni tranquilli".

21.11.2007 No scholarships or unemployment allowance to the disabled, no financial assistance to widows, no juvenile shelter homes, no primary school for the deaf, no home for mentally retarded, no leprosy complex and no disbursement of funds to old-age homes. Despite availability of funds, the social welfare schemes of the Delhi government are in a shambles.

12.11.2007 Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, in his first news conference since the imposition of martial law, has said elections will be held by January 9 but under the current state of emergency. Human rights activists were quick to retort that free and fair polls are not possible under such conditions.
