Dans le cadre de la XXXVe Assemblée générale de l’Organisation des États américains (OEA), qui a commencé aujourd’hui à Ft. Lauderdale, aux États-Unis, la Coalition internationale des organisations pour les droits humains dans les Amériques a adressé aux pays membres de l’OEA une série de recommandations sur des questions prioritaires touchant les droits humains. Dans la déclaration qu’elle a émise, la Coalition a signalé que la faiblesse des institutions démocratiques ainsi que l’exclusion et les inégalités sociales contribuent grandement à la fragilité de la démocratie dans les Amériques.

L’adoption de la Loi C-38, qui accorde le droit au mariage à tous les gays et lesbiennes du Canada, est une victoire pour les droits de la personne, selon le Syndicat canadien de la fonction publique (SCFP). « C’est une victoire pour les droits de la personne dans l’ensemble du Canada, un pas en avant pour les droits égaux des gays et des lesbiennes de tout le pays », affirme le président national du SCFP, Paul Moist, au sujet de l’adoption hier du projet de loi C-38 par les députés du Parlement.

Četiri godine posle oktobarskih promena, Srbija je započela tranziciju u demokratsku tržišnu ekonomiju, ali je medijski sektor i dalje jedan od najgorih u regionu kad je u pitanju pravna regulativa, navodi se u istraživanju koje je sproveo IREX ProMedia Beograd.

Varie Ong internazionali hanno reso pubblico un rapporto dal titolo “Africa; Up in Smoke?” in cui si chiede ai leader dei paesi del G8 di prendere iniziative immediate per le energie rinnovabili contrastando i cambiamenti climatici, altrimenti gli sforzi per eliminare la povertà nel continente africano si riveleranno vani. “Amici della Terra” sta promuovendo una virtual action che si terrà simbolicamente il 7 luglio alle 13.45. Intanto oggi a Londra e all’Aja, in occasione delle riunioni annuali degli azionisti della Shell si è tenuta una protesta di numerosi gli esponenti delle comunità impattate dai devastanti progetti della multinazionale petrolifera. Sul caso della Nigeria è partita una denuncia la scorsa settimana con l’intento di far cessare la pratica del "gas flaring", ovvero la combustione in torcia del gas che fuoriesce dai pozzi petroliferi.

Civilni sektor učinio je mnogo više na uspostavljanju novih odnosa i njihovoj normalizaciji od samih država Dejtonskog trougla. Napravio je pomak ka razumevanju, obnovi poverenja, otvorio vrata za budućnost u regionu. Pokazala je to i deseta sesija Igmanske inicijative koja je proteklih dana održana u Beogradu.

The World Bank has approved of a US $3 million grant to Nepal for its Economic Reform Technical Assistance Project which intends to strengthen home-grown reforms in the areas of public sector capacity, service delivery, social inclusion, governance, and reducing unproductive public sector intervention in the economy.

Journalists in Pakistan have reportedly filed dozens of access to information requests in the past six months as a result of workshops on press freedom organised by the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF). Since December 2004, PPF has held workshops in seven communities throughout the country to train journalists on press freedom monitoring and free expression advocacy.

Macedonia has taken another step along the road to Euro-Atlantic integration by attempting to reform its notoriously inefficient and corrupt judiciary. However, analysts fear that, in its attempt to impress Brussels, Skopje is rushing into the process without any real clear idea of how to proceed with the reforms.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said that the sagging farm sector growth, which has deprived the rural poor of substantial benefits, has to be doubled. He also stressed that the country will have to improve its performance in the water and the power sectors.

The Osijek-based Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (LSC) currently implements three programmes: a campaign for definition of the status of NGOs that provide free legal assistance; promotion of minority rights; and promotion of European anti-racism and anti-xenophobia values. These are long-term programmes and campaigns that proceed over several years and involve organizations from all over Croatia.
