25.09.2006 Tieto satojen eurooppalaisten hitsaajien ja asentajien tulosta Botnian sellutehtaan työmaalle Uruguayssa on johtanut vakavaan paikalliseen kiistaan. Sadat hankkeen uruguaylaiset rakennustyöläiset menivät tiistaina lakkoon protestina suunnitelmalle käyttää huomattavaa määrää ulkomaista työvoimaa. Toisen uutisen mukaan Greenpeace ennustaa Uruguayhin ja Argentiinaan runsaasti uusia selluhankkeita.

20.09.2006 YK:n korkean tason neuvotteluja siirtolaisuudesta jatkettaneen pääsihteeri Kofi Annanin ehdottamassa pysyvässä foorumissa. YK:n korkean tason neuvottelut siirtolaisuudesta ja kehityksestä pidettiin 14.-15. syyskuuta New Yorkissa. YK:n yleiskokouksen avajaisissa 19. syyskuuta koottiin neuvotteluissa esiin tulleet teemat.
