29.05.2006 U srijedu 24. 5. je u Skopju održan snažan protest protiv oružja i primjene oružane sile na kojem je sudjelovalo više tisuća ljudi. Skup je organiziran kao dio Međunarodnog akcijskog tjedna protiv oružja, ali i povodom smrti troje i ranjavanja šestero mladih ljudi u jednom internet caféu prošlog tjedna. Protest je vodio nedavno uspostavljeni građanski pokret Zgjohu! Shkup (Razbudi se, Skopje!), uz potporu organizacije Civil sa sloganima “Zaustavimo nasilje” i “Zaustavimo oružje”.

25.05.2006 Thousands of people strong peaceful protest against weapons and armed violence was held yesterday in Skopje, the capitol of Macedonia. The rally was organized as part of the International Action Week Against Small Arms, as well as to mark the death of three and wounding six young people in an internet café, last week.

25.05.2006 Yesterday, in Zagreb, the Centre for Peace Studies organized a round-table discussion on the draft-Law on Security and Intelligence System of the Republic of Croatia. The draft has already passed the first reading at the Sabor (Croatian parliament), and the text is now in the process of preparation for the second reading. CMS estimates that there are several disputable points and, yet, there was not wider public debate on the proposal.

25.05.2006 The media campaign for the Montenegro Referendum was conducted correctly, but in the field work of the activists a number of inadequate actions were registered that could qualify as pressure on the voters, states the CEMI Centre for Monitoring in its Final Report on the Monitoring of Referendum Process. The Report provides a global evaluation of the overall referendum campaign, the work of the referendum bodies, as well as the conduct of the actual ballot day and the atmosphere after the results were announced.

24.05.2006 Amnesty International Hrvatske jučer je na konferenciji za novinare u Zagrebu predstavio svoj redovni godišnji zvještaj “Stanje ljudskih prava u svijetu” za 2005. godinu koji na više od 300 stranica obuhvaća 150 država . Vezano uz stanje u Hrvatskoj tajnik Ureda AIH Edin Tuzlak posebno je upozorio na tri problematična područja: procesuiranje za ratne zločine; bilateralni sporazum Hrvatske i SAD o neizručivanju američkih državljana stalnom Međunarodnom kaznennom sudu; te tajna slijetanja CIA-inih aviona sa osumnjičenicima za terorizam na hrvatski teritorij.

23.05.2006 Riprende il percorso del movimento contro la guerra in occasione della parata del 2 giugno di Roma. Dopo la richiesta rifiutata di cancellare la parata si annunciano contromanifestazioni. "E’ urgente che l’Italia separi le proprie responsabilitŕ dall’occupazione illegale dell’Iraq e dalla guerra permanente e si impegni con una forte iniziativa diplomatica per ristabilire sovranitŕ, pace e convivenza nell’area. E’ urgente che si pronunci contro qualsiasi intervento militare contro l’Iran, si impegni per un piano generale di disarmo nucleare, per la fine dell’occupazione in Palestina e una pace giusta in Medio Oriente. Chiediamo che non siano rifinanziate le missioni in Iraq e in Afghanistan, che si ritirino immediatamente i soldati italiani e ridiscutendo tutte le missioni militari italiane all’estero. La politica prenda il posto delle armi. L’Italia costruisca la pace con la pace.

22.05.2006 Il prossimo 7 luglio, ci sarŕ la prima udienza dell'azione civile intentata da cinque pacifisti pordenonesi contro il governo USA, con la richiesta di rimozione delle 50 atomiche presenti nella base Usaf di Aviano. Č una causa storica: per la prima volta, un giudice viene chiamato a decidere sulla legittimitŕ della presenza di atomiche sul territorio italiano. Quelle atomiche sono lě in flagrante violazione del trattato di non proliferazione (NPT), con il quale gli stati nucleari si sono impegnati a non trasferire ad altri, sia direttamente che indirettamente, la proprietŕ o il controllo delle loro atomiche, mentre al tempo stesso gli stati non nucleari si impegnavano specularmente a non cercare in alcun modo di acquisire il controllo o la proprietŕ di armi nucleari. Per questo, domenica 28 maggio, a Pordenone, si costituirŕ formalmente il comitato "Via le Bombe", con l'obiettivo di intervenire in causa a fianco dei proponenti ed in rappresentanza di tutti gli aderenti. L'intenzione č quella di trasformare questa azione legale in una specie di "class action", con centinaia, migliaia, e - perché no - milioni di persone che chiedono il rispetto della legalitŕ internzionale, che esigono di essere trattati come cittadini e non come ostaggio o bersaglio delle partite a Risiko planetario tra i signori della guerra. - di Tiziano Tissino

11.05.2006 The Green Paper on the European Transparency Initiative (ETI) was launched by the European Commission on May 3, 2006. The Green Paper brings together three aspects of the ETI in one document covering transparency in lobbying activities, feedback on the application of the minimum standards for consultation and the disclosure of beneficiaries of EU funds.

10.05.2006 The amendments that introduce the term «hate crime» in Croatian Criminal Code, proposed by the Legal Team of Iskorak and Kontra Associations, were adopted by the Sabor (Croatian parliament) Committee for Human and National Minority Rights at its session of yesterday, May 9, 2006. The amendments were adopted by a majority of votes, while the Committee Members from the Croatian Democratic Union abstained from voting.
