Più di trenta capitali e 500 città nel mondo hanno aderito all'iniziativa per mettere al bando la pena di morte promossa per il quinto anno consecutivo dalla Comunità Sant'Egidio di Roma. Stasera 30 novembre, tutti i monumenti simbolo delle città che aderiscono all'inziativa "Città per la vita" verranno illuminati a partire dal Colosseo a Roma fino al Palazzo della Moneda a Santiago del Cile. "Un grido contro la pena di morte che parte da Roma per scuotere le coscienze e dire no alle esecuzioni" - affermano i promotori che se da un lato notano come nell'ultimo decennio 40 Paesi hanno abolito la pena di morte - e in questi Paesi gli omicidi si sono ridotti del 20 per cento - dall'altro la pena capitale continua in numerosi Paesi tra cui la Cina (il cui numero di esecuzioni varia secondo le fonti da 2000 a 8000), Iran, Arabia Saudita e Usa dove sono state 60 le esecuzioni registrate e dove solo nel marzo del 2005 sono state messe al bando le esecuzioni nei confronti dei minorenni. Secondo il recente rapporto di Amnesty International sono più di 20mila i condannati a morte nel mondo.

Eduskunta käsittelee parhaillaan uutta tilintarkastuslakia. Jos lakiesitykseen ei tule merkittäviä muutoksia, suuria seurauksia on kaksi: valtaosa suomalaisjärjestöistä vapautetaan tilintarkastusvelvollisuudesta, ja niin sanotut maallikkotilintarkastajat painuvat unholaan. Jäljelle jäävien on pakko käyttää virallisia tilintarkastajia.

Organizaciones de la sociedad civil nicaragüense que integran la Coalición de Organizaciones por el Derecho al Agua, denunciaron ante la prensa nacional e internacional, las pretensiones de la Asamblea Nacional de aprobar en lo particular la Ley de Aguas Nacionales, lo que permite la privatización de los recursos Hídricos del país.

The World Congress on Communication for Development (WCCD) that brought together communication practitioners and developments experts from across the world has issued a final draft of recommendations for governments, policy makers and the development community. The meet that took place from October 25-27, 2006 in Rome says, "Communication for development is essential to make the difference happen".

Sri Lanka's first outdoor wireless computer network is now up and running. Surprisingly, it is not in Colombo. It is not even in any of the other key places. It was installed in Mahavilachchiya, a little known village, 40 km from the nearest town Anuradhapura, and surrounded three sides by the Vilpattu jungle.
