The Zambian Supreme Court has upheld the 2004 High Court decision not to deport satirical columnist Roy Clarke, a British national permanently resident in Zambia, over a column published in the privately owned Post newspaper on first January 2004, allegedly insulting President Levy Mwanawasa.

Milioni di donne e uomini, organizzazioni, reti, movimenti, sindacati di tanti Paesi del mondo si mobiliteranno il 26 gennaio, per la Giornata d’azione del World Social Forum 2008, negli stessi giorni in cui a Davos si riuniscono i “pochi eletti” del World Economic Forum. L'appello è promosso da tutte le organizzazioni e i movimenti a livello mondiale, nazionale e locale che fanno riferimento alla Carta dei Principi del Forum sociale mondiale. In Italia sono previste numerose iniziative contro la guerra, per il disarmo, contro il razzismo e la xenofobia, sui temi del lavoro, dei diritti, dell’ambiente e dell’altra economia. Rete di Lilliput partecipa rilanciando la proposta di iniziativa popolare "Per un’Italia libera da armi nucleari" e conferma il sostegno alla richiesta di moratoria sulla nuova base ‘Dal Molin’ a Vicenza. E Terra Futura promuove una tavola rotonda virtuale di alcuni membri del comitato consultivo del WSF.

Activists in Pakistan have come heavily on an ordinance to curb electronic crime. The government’s move of prohibiting the use of Internet and SMS is being seen as curtailment of freedom of expression and civil liberties. Pakistanis were extensively using blog sites to criticise the state of affairs in the country.

On January 11 2008, Zambian President, Dr Levy Mwanawasa announced during the official opening of Parliament that Government had decided to re-introduce the Freedom of Information Bill back into Parliament this year following wide consultation.

On January 5 2008, two editors of the weekly Kiswahili newspaper - Mwanahalisi - were attacked and beaten by three anonymous machete-wielding (double edged bush knives) attackers at their media house in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
